((Which Eddie fits are your favorite? Like if you had to pick your top 3? Does your Eddie stay in one, or rotate?))
Arkham City is definitely my favorite Riddler fit.
For multiple reasons I've gone over a thousand times before but I'll go over them real quickly again for the sake of this ask.
I love how dingy and untidy this design is. When people think of Riddler, many people DO think of this suave and highly fashionable man. I? I think the opposite (at least regarding the former; suave) I always see Riddler as this sleazy man who grew up with middle - low income parents who definitely taught him no etiquette. He tries to present himself as a gentleman, but really he's this ill - mannered mentally ill drug addict who, in the end, fails to play such a role of sophistication.
And I feel this outfit (or outfits like it) does a great job at showing that. Again, he's dingy and untidy. Sure, he's wearing a suit like a gentleman would -- but he's not wearing it right. The sleeves are rolled up, the blazer's unbuttoned, the tie is loose, the glasses aren't on his face properly. He's also wearing this suit with combat boots and fingerless gloves. Again, it gives off the perfect look of a ""lowlife"" pretending to be high class.
I also love the choice of the combat boots and fingerless gloves because not only do they accentuate what I just detailed -- but they're also more practical. Riddler is usually known for wearing gloves, but I think the fingerless ones makes more sense than the dressier ones. Because Riddler is a tech guy, he handles a lot of technology, and uh ... modern technology usually features MANY touchscreens. Him having fingerless gloves to work better with touchscreens just makes more sense to me.
The combat boots also make a lot of sense to me because Ed's a criminal in Gotham, y'know... he's probably doing a lot of sneaking around in the more shady & less cleaner places of Gotham. It's more logical to walk around in combat boots instead of dirtying nicer dress shoes. Plus, they're likely easier to run in lol. And overall, the fingerless gloves & combat boots just make him look cooler overall.
Wow...! I said I was gonna go over this quickly and then I didn't... whoops...! I also love the messy hair he has in City. Which again, when most people think Riddler, they think nice hair or slicked back hair. But the designers gave Riddler messier hair because they figured he'd be stimming a lot (in this case, scratching his head) when he gets upset. Because uhh... for once, SOMEBODY hired by DC remembers Ed has OCD and decided to actually incorporate that into his design lol.
So yes, City's my favorite fit because I feel a lot of thought was put into it, and it really tells you a lot about Ed's character by just looking at it alone.
As such, I can say my Eddie definitely dresses similar. At least, in the same vibes. The same trying to pull off the gentleman look, but just comes off as sleazy instead. If he's not wearing something similar to City, then he's wearing shirts that are like,,, unbuttoned so his chest is easily seen and all that lol.
I've drawn arts of fits Eddie wears before ... uhhh, some of these are old (like 4+ years old LOL) so forgive them for not being so great HASDHAHDA.
But yes! I often give him the "lazy suit" look with the open jacket -- but also go the extra mile by omitting the tie + giving him a low cut / unbuttoned shirt.
When I give him a tie (and a fully buttoned shirt lmao) -- I give him a black shirt BECAUSE I actually think Frank Gorshin had that idea first. (In fact, Frank was the one to first take Eddie out of the spandex & put him in a suit, a lotta the suit was initially his idea) basically because he said Ed's not really a "law abiding citizen" -- so him wearing black as a color that "rebels" against society (because at the time most men primarily wore white shirts)
I also give him a vague 70s vibe to his designs 'cos I personally enjoy 70s fashion & aesthetics.
AND. The glasses. I honestly never care much for the domino mask. I guess you could say it's purely fashionable -- but since Eddie doesn't really hide his identity or anything, it kinda seems pointless to me. So, I always prefer him in glasses instead.
I use Animated Series icons for Eddie just 'cos it's the most consistent art for him, and I think he's rly cute in the show's style. But uhh ... as you can see, my ideas of how Eddie looks actually differs quite a lot from the Animated Series design. :')
I didn't rly GIVE a top 3 'cos rly. I can't think of a top 3. AC rly just knocks most of 'em outta the water for me. I love Animated Series Eddie, and he's cute in it. But those gray pants + white tie pisses me off LMAOOO.
Tho I rarely draw him, I often draw GCPD Eddie as a mix between his Animated Series & Origins design (suspenders & high pants but finglerless gloves, glasses, & the tie)
But to give something final 'cos I've been YAPPING ON. (I'm the YAPPER!!) But I feel Eddie definitely "rotates" in his wardrobe, or at the very least -- wears something a little different. Although he does often wear the suit + bowler hat combo, he obvs wears them in different ways / not always the same. (See above) and AS the Riddler, he def wears the bowler hat way more often than I draw him wearing one, I just ,,, haha ,,, REALLY hate drawing bowler hats. (Tho after he reforms, Eddie pretty much discards the bowler hat. Both to show he's no longer the Riddler, and also for my own art convenience LMAOOOOO)
