It had been a few weeks since Verity had last seen Colton, and she would be lying if she said there hadn’t been a day he hadn’t crossed her mind. It had turned out to be a much bigger adjustment going from seeing the other a few times a week or more, to not at all. She missed him, there had never been any doubt in her mind that she would, but the more time she had had to herself and actually processed things, the more she started to realize how stupid she had been for not having fought for something she wanted for once, and for someone who wanted her.
She had been leaning up against the wall in the barn, sipping off of another one of her drinks of the night, when she had spotted him across the room from her. Her heart stopped momentarily the second her eyes locked onto him. Chugging back the remainder of her drink, giving her the liquid courage she needed, she walked over towards him. Her heart was hammering out of her chest for every step she took, and once she stood next to him and stretched her hand out to prick his shoulder, she swallowed thickly. “Hey --” She said, “Can we talk?”
