The Comparison
After leaving Mac for PC 14 years ago, I've returned. I've dabbled in Apple products during college: I got my iPhone about a year ago, dropped into the Media Activities Center at UVa, got hold of an iPad and Pro for a couple weeks over the summer. Despite the access, I never became fluent in Apple products... for $$ and philosophical reasons. However, since I'm moving into the design industry, it's certainly something I decided to change. I'm going to see what all the hype is about.
To start things off, I went with the MacBook Pro 13" (without Retina Display, Model MD102LL/A). There is not additional software on this computer, not even the MS Office Suite. The only thing I've downloaded thus far is Evernote, a hopeful substitute for OneNote, and a couple App Store updates.
I should probably mention that my other laptop is the Dell XPS14. It came with Windows 7, but I upgraded to 8 a couple months back--worst decision ever. The XPS14 has no touch screen and isn't apt for the potential capabilities of Windows 8. The touchpad is jerky, and I've had Internet connection problems ever since the upgrade. Otherwise, the hardware is fine. A good graphics card for moderate use, LED screen, and backlit keyboard. Super lightweight and slim.
Since I had an iPhone, I had iTunes and iCloud installed on my PC. It was unfortunate that I couldn't synchronize all the iPhone apps for use on my computer though. I would probably have used the Notes, Reminders, and Calendar feature more.
Enough drabble, I'll post more tomorrow.
