Hello ! Erin here. And boy do I have a story to tell. It’s a really sad one with a happy ending … in progress. You probably saw the picture in this post and you are wondering what happened to this sweet little pup. You may know her as Holstein from #thecowlitter but I renamed her Delilah. Tuesday night I sat down on the couch and ate my dinner there. I got up from the couch and the playpen with all the babies were on my left as I walked by. Suddenly my fork slipped off the plate and slid into the playpen. It fell onto one of the exercise saucers where little Miss Delilah was sitting. I didn’t see it hit her but she looked startled for sure. I picked her up to say sorry and give her a kiss and she let out a little squeak. She seemed okay but when I put her down and watched her walk away, her gate seemed to be a little off. Mind you this is hard to tell under all of her puppy fluff. Within seconds my adrenaline kicked in and I started to freak out. I examined her and I just knew it was broken. I emailed my vet. I messaged my breeder chat group and quickly I knew that the ER would not be able to do anything. So it was time for pain meds and a safe place to keep her until morning. She seemed totally fine, even hyper after the pain meds so I just begged her to take a rest! In the AM I made an emergency drop off at our vet and before I even made it to work I got confirmation that her tibia was broken. The options were surgery to put a pin in it or wrap it or try to splint it and hope for the best, then amputation if that didn’t work. Of course, we went with surgery! Hours later Dr. Sydney Pokard placed a 24-gauge-intra-medullary pin in Delialh’s leg. I was ecstatic when she called with the good news that the surgery was a success. Through all of this, you can imagine the insane amount of guilt I was feeling. I was and still am sick to my stomach about it. Accidents happen to us all. I get that. But I am extremely grateful this wasn’t worse! This was just awful for me and worse for her. This sweet little girl has been so well tempered and cute through this whole process. We will update you all along the way with her recovery. Thank you so much @doctorsydney_dvm ❤️ (at Serrano Animal and Bird Hospital) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1fGyKyAE-e/?igshid=i8oltnbilpd1
