"Hey, Scarface!" The Coyote giggled with an evil grin.
"Scarface?" Joe growled, lifting his eyes irritably from his book. "You can't even see my face. Who are you?"

Garret's knees were too weak, he collapsed to the ground and on the hot desert sand, ripped off his hands and was then only coughing in the dust underneath his face.
He was lost. Defnitely lost. He had not thought good enough about what he was trying to do, he had not packed enough food and supplies, he simply did not have the right equipment there. He just ran away from home, marching off to the world without any prior knowledge of how to survive out there. Simply up and away he wanted to go, as far as it was possible. To " come to rest " he had said to himself . He had it now, just had run away like there's no tomorrow . He had left everything behind; his wife, who was still married to him on paper. but for wanted nothing to do with him for quite some time now, since he could not really feed the family, and his no longer-existent job he had given up more or less voluntarily, after a tinder box-explosion that had ripped of half his face and the execution of 3 of his friends. His entire life . All that was left to him was the faithful mare Bessy, but even she would not make it for any longer if he would not find any water soon...
The former soldier buried the painful sunburned face in the crook of his arm after with an exhausted sigh. He was just lying there just as he had fallen.
He gave up. Himself and the rest of the world ...
His view was blurred to him, it included a noise that made him growl and ache his head, as he was about to go west... At least for now ..

Night had fallen, the moon reflecting off a fresh layer of snow. Everything was quiet, and although it was could, snow had stopped falling and the wind had ceased. Alsoomse looked outside from the mouth of the cave she had been sheltering in. She doubted anyone or anything would be out at this time, but she had a strong urge to traipse through the snow.
With her resolve in mind, the Shawnee woman gathering what little she carried and wrapped her furs tighter around herself. Her village would not be far--a mere few miles, in fact--but the snow would make the journey long. She didn't get very far, though, as the sound of a rustling bush caught her attention. She stopped, her eyes scanning the general area of where the sound came from, unsure if the noise was human or animal.
Garret leaned back in the saddle to make himself comfortable, humming a little song to himself and closing his eyes for a moment. He enjoyed these rides so much. Nothing around him except the warm desert sun, the clatter of Bessy's hoofs beneath, the calm swaying of the mare and the feeling of emptiness around him. Everything would have been perfect, Garret would probably have felt like back in the old times, as behind, or rather underneath him began a faint bleating and the sniper opened one of his eyes in order to look for his companion.
" Back there is still running your horse, Joe ? ... Would you ride, we were also a bit faster and also be out of the sun ? What do you think, Snowflake?" Nothing. The Nightstalker didn't say a word, only stared straight ahead angrily . Garret shook his head. "Sometimes I honestly forget why it is you, who always checks for such trips. "
They rode all day long, Joe was always indignant, even attempted to beat after the old Bessy once, which then only outraged whinnied and threw up her head, that Garret awoke from his doze again. But the sun went down slowly, the high mountains of the plains were already in the dark shadows, and so Garret also hoped that Joe would simply improve his mood soon ...
And that he did. Especially as they sat around the fire at night . Garret had just unpacked his harmonica and had plastered his beans when suddenly something moved in the darkness behind them. The Outlaw looked around, less alarmed than his companion. "Cool down, partner ... It's surely only a coyote or something... "
