The Daughter of the Sea
The storm broke overhead, lighting flashed across the dark sky, the waves rose and fell in harsh swells; a lone ship bobbed in the waters of the rocky cove. Men yelled loudly over the howling wind as they hauled a net up the side of the ship, the men struggled against the slick floor boards and the flailing mass they carried. The crew were resilient; they knew the high cost of failure.
With a final heave the net was pulled onto the deck and the men rushed to secure the animal; many were hit with harsh blows, which left black and blue marks. Ropes where thrown and tied with haste, immobilizing the furious beast quickly. As the men stepped back gasping for air, pushing back rain soaked hair, they marveled at their work. The deafening sound of boot's quieted the crew, even a dropped of a coin could be hear over the crashing sea.
The second mate rushed forward and spoke softly of the crew's brilliant success. The Captain said nothing as he moved towards the captured creature, the crowd parted. The woman in the net bared her pointed teeth and hissed at the men, her striking sliver eyes full of rage met mischievous brown ones and the Captain crooned "Well what do we have ‘ere?"
