Daily Song - Day 121
Negative Thinking - The Death Set - To (2005)
When I was living in Charlottetown, working on my Masters, I attended a house show in someone’s basement; this high-energy trio was one of the bands playing that night… and they stood out. Their songs were super short, super fast, and the whole set was a frenetic kick in the teeth. Guitars, drums, samples and electronics melded in an energetic sonic blast. Honestly, it was kind of hard to properly separate one song from another through the experience, with the singer literally hanging from the ceiling, and jumping through the crowd. I picked up a couple of their albums after the set.
Negative Thinking makes heavy use of samples with a fast punk rock ethos, with near anthemic zeal. It’s simple and straightforward, telling you to move your body and reject cynicism, and live life to the fullest. The Death Set are a party, and they want you to party too.
