So I was thinking about your mask thing with iwaoi (and a bit of matsuhana) and I actually think you can apply this to the whole seijou team. Like Kyoutani masking his insecurities by pushing others away, Yahaba's "shallowness" to mask his true feelings, Kindaichi's more "easy going" personality that is a result of not quite believing he's good enough, Watari most likely being the reliable libero by default, and Kunimi... Is the only one I am not sure about.

We don’t actually have enough textual evidence to say for sure, but I’d say these are pretty legit speculations. Nowhere in canon does it say the laid back attitudes of Matsuhana are facades to hide something darker. I know people who don’t have to hide behind masks simply because they are very comfortable with their lives. (So much envy at how chill they are all the time.) But, well, these teenagers about to enter the scary, foreign world of adulthood. Most would be a bit insecure. 

And this makes great headcanons to torture ourselves with.
