yeah it was Luke in the cloak, I can't even remeber thany of there kids names tbh, I mean it's disapointing that a lot of the great post ROTJ EU will be ignored like Thrawn or Mara Jade, but on the plus Chewie isn't dead
Jaina (Alive), Jacen (Turned to Dark Side and Killed by Jaina), and Anakin (Killed by Vong).
Haha Chewbacca seems to be the hard line a lot of people took with the New Jedi Order and everything that came afterwards. Weirdly enough I didn’t hate that as it was given narrative weight, and the role reversal that came with the near-victory of the Vong was actually earned by the story, as opposed to the ones afterwards, which tore the galaxy apart basically because Jedi and Sith are cool.
We’re going to miss Mara or her stand-in entirely at this rate, which is incredibly sad. Mallory Ortberg described Luke of RotJ as a zen, sexless being, and that characterization may have survived 30 years, unfortunately.
I mean, I love Thrawn, and Pellaeon (they are narratively inseparable to me and Pellaeon is basically the case study in how the Empire can last as long as it does without the Emperor), but they aren’t narratively necessary to the original trio the same way that Mara is. Luke actually getting to have a family and being a husband and father is kind of an important part of his personal growth. If he’s been hermitting it up with R2 somewhere, we lose that entirely.
Also have Leia and Han really gone 30 years without settling down? I’m not sure I can believe that. Even if there’s a reluctance to introduce another Skywalker who could steal the thunder of the new trio, ending things here (especially if Luke dies) would be...a waste.
