Mumbai: What is your favorite scent

I love the way the air smells when it rains. I love everything about rain. It creates such a tranquil atmosphere, but nothing about rain, the way it sounds and feels, compares to the earthy scent of fresh rain outside. The rain may be cold but the scent makes me feel like I’m being wrapped in a warm blanket.

Here are my questions to answer:

1. What is your opinion on e-readers?

I think they're convenient for travel and especially helpful when students can purchase their textbooks for e-reader format as opposed to lugging around books, but personally, I'm not in favor of them. I love the physical weight and textures of a book and the character a well-loved edition has just as much as I love the stories they hold.

2. What was your favorite book as a child?

For pre-school age, Corduroy Bear. For elementary, Little House on the Prairie.

3. What is a book that you read in school but ended up enjoying?

I had a lot of these, but the best was probably Pride and Prejudice.

4. What is the most books you've been reading at one time?

I think 4, and it got kind of confusing, but I stuck it out haha.

5. What is the book character you would most like to be?

I'm gonna have to say Hermione Granger.

6. What is the one book you could read over and over again?

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, hands down.

7. What is one book that you would change the ending to if you could?

Ooh, that's a tough one. I don't know if I would, even if I could, because I appreciate literature for being the story that the author wanted to tell. I can understand how some people have frustrations with certain book endings, but I guess I just don't harbor the urge to change other writer's creations.

8. Why did you decide to start a book blog?

I found a great community in the fandom section of Tumblr, but my personal blog lacked the amount of book and writing-related content I wanted to incorporate. When it came down to contemplating how many new blogs I wanted to follow to achieve said content, I decided it would need a page all on its own, and thus theitchofliterature was born! Plus I knew a separate blog could be a platform for my writing and my career once it takes off.

9. What is the last book you read?

Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett.

10. How many times have you read your favorite book.

From cover to cover, 5. When just going back for particular passages, too many times to count.

11. When did you start to enjoy reading?

Somewhere between ages 3 and 4. I was that kid in preschool who always toddled to the book corner for free time.

Is the natural beauty of the girl taken into consideration (i.e. like in the modeling industry)?

no. skills are the most important thing, not looks :) of course, beautiful maiko may be more popular among some customers than average looking one, but luckily good appearance is not enough.

I noticed that today you posted a few interviews done by maikos, and it got me wondering, are there any geishas or maikos working today that are household names/well-known to the general public in Japan?

I don't know... I know that majority of maiko and geiko are just nameless women for Japanese people. Only their clients know their names and care about their careers. I don't think there's any geiko or maiko who's treaten like a celebrity in Japan. Geiko Katsuno is the most famous right now, but still she's not widely known in Japan.
