Now here’s something you don’t hear a lot. Insane improvised jazz post-punk from the darkest alley’s of New York! Along with James Chance And The Contortions, Teenage Jesus And The Jerks, and DNA, they were pioneers of the NO WAVE genre that would go on to inspire every group that passed through the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival (a yearly event held in the South of England). John Lurie was the mastermind behind this great combo, also known for his star roles in various Jim Jarmusch films. I first heard ‘Do The Wrong Thing’ off of 1981′s self titled debut by The Lounge Lizards originally on a compilation titled ‘Death Disco’, a montage of obscure moments from the late 70′s and early 80′s. Another stand out track would be ‘I Remember Coney Island’, a flat out brain hemorrhage that would pickle your mind to the point of meltdown! This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, though I’d quite happily say this is definitely my type of jazz! Check them out.
