Theme Set : Loneliness

Looking at old photographs in your wallet until your throat aches and your eyes sting with longing for the past.

Lying on your bed for hours on end, staring at the ceiling without really seeing anything but simultaneously seeing every single memory that you hold close. 

Feeling heavy and sick to your stomach when you hear about any of your friends making plans together, watching them go about their lives without you. 

Creating conversations in your head that you know will never happen, but getting emotional about them just the same because to you they’re real somehow.

Wanting to slip out of existence for a brief moment, just to see who would notice your absence. 

Holding too tightly to little scraps of memories, ticket stubs and dried flowers and scribbled notes that you passed back and forth in school. 

Mentally begging someone not to let go when they finally hug you, burning the memory into your brain so you have something to keep you warm at night.

Clear nights with a warm breeze and an infinite sky of stars to surround you as you talk about anything and everything with your closest friend. 

Amusement parks and carnivals, laughter and memories that last much longer than the lines do. 

Driving with the windows down on after a trip to your favorite swimming hole, wind in your face and the radio playing your favorite song.

Sunburns that gradually give way to tans, freckles that show up like constellations on your skin. 

Going out to dinner with your family or getting takeout almost every other day just because nobody wants to cook in this heat.

Sitting shotgun on a road trip with your best friends, looking around you as the world flashes past in glorious color outside your window and somehow feeling strangely free and more alive than you have in any other moment. 

The sense of refreshment that only comes in summertime when you find a nice place in the shade to enjoy a cold drink. 

Watermelon juice dripping down your chin and arms and leaving a sweet, sticky feeling on your skin. 

Fireworks and fireflies that, despite being vastly different, both cause equal wonder when seen up close.
