Summary: In the summer of 1976, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black finally stopped circling each other. Then the war began and turned their lives upside down.

Comments: A canon-compliant epic, spanning their last years at Hogwarts and the first war. The dialogue and detail were fantastic, making it easy to become wrapped up in the world. As a lover of Marauder’s era stories, the first part was my favorite, and I was particularly pleased at how casual and stress-free their coming out and get together was. Of course, angst and suspicion seep into their lives during the first war, but it was nice that the fic ended with a hopeful epilogue. And the art was absolutely beautiful.

#febficaday - Day 6

Summary: London, 1980. It’s not yesterday anymore, or: a retrospective as told through ‘77 punk.

Comments: I knew this would be my favorite kind of first war angst. I also knew it was canon and written by fluorescentgrey and so would absolutely tear me apart, in the best way, when I read it. And my god I wasn’t disappointed; this fic was glorious, gut-wrenching, heart breaking, so so perfect. I feel like everything in this story, the music, the characters, the war, the relationships, are inexorably bound together to create this intense atmosphere that keeps you constantly on edge. It’s dark and gorgeous and 100% going on my list of all-time favorites.

#aprilaufest - Day 22

Summary: In which there is uprising in the kitchen, kneading dough is not a euphemism, and Sirius devours sticky buns.

Comments: A warm, comfy, cuddly read with a bit of wartime questioning and a lot of baking. A quiet little fic that left me craving both bread and hugs.
