I hate Prussia. I wish he was never brought into Hetalia. I hate his design, his personality, and the Hetalia fandom wouldn’t be half as infamous if it weren’t for his fangirls. I’d say I wished he died after WWII, but that would just make it worse.

The difference between canon!England and fanon!England lies in his conflicting personality traits; he’s both a roguish pirate and a self-styled gentleman, a realist and a magician, inventing something at one moment and appearing like a huge airhead at the next, and so on. And then there’s the whole ‘seme versus uke’ debate and the whole ‘tsuntsun to deredere’ thing.

My point is, canon!England is Hetalia’s most popular character by a mile (I calculated the ranks from multiple popularity polls, as well as fanart and fanfic, and England ended first), but fanon!England hasn’t received nearly as much love, and even made people who like him at first, change their mind. Why is that?

Here’s a theory: most fans try to portray him accurately, but emphasize one trait too much, forgetting about his other side, bringing his whole personality out of balance.

There is a reason popular characters have so many fans. At least to me, it seemed that Himaruya carefully constructed England’s varied personality, making opposing traits and quirks exist in harmony. This strange concept may or may not be what made him so magical, why so many girls are fangirling over him despite his obvious character flaws.

I absolutely hate the use of the words ‘uke’, ‘seme’, ‘tsundere’ and all those kinds of words. And not just in Hetalia, but in all anime and manga. It doesn’t describe the character in anyway whatsoever.

I feel as if Denmark would make an amazing best friend and the best brother ever, but would be hated by everyone if he were to get involved in a romantic relationship. I see him as the type that would give all of his attention to his love interest instead of friends and family were this the case.

I dislike England the most out of all the characters. Partly due to his characterization but mostly due to how fandom inadvertently puts him on a pedestal. I happen to love the actual country and its culture but Hetalia’s England just doesn’t cut it for me.

I hate seeing Prussia portrayed as this rebellious punk type who sleeps around, causes trouble and generally fits that “bad boy” idea.

The fandom’s stereotype goes against any other Prussian stereotype I’ve ever heard. I picture him more militaristic and organized. I picture him strict, religious and serious. Oh sure, he starts trouble, and gets in fights, but he’s not just “doing his thing”. He has a plan.
