The twin-duo making a statement
Ibeyi is a new and distinct group with Cuban/French background. When you first listen to their vocals, you can get a sense of a not-so-common language being spoken. We're not talking about a made-up language like "hopelandic". Yoruba, which is a Nigerian language brought over to cuba during slavery in 1700's, is what they try to incorporate into their music. Their father was a strong believer of staying true to their culture. Especially if certain elements are starting to be forgotten.
