✨It took work, but what things worth having ever didn’t?✨ • Trying to keep myself motivated when the past few days have felt like punishment to push myself to sit and write. Do you get this way with projects? I’m SO EXCITED for this book, this world and characters. But it’s like I’ve hit that wall in a diet or exercise routine. This happens with every book I’ve written. I begin to see the end and I’m like, “whoa! Maybe we can take a break now?! For like, 5 weeks.” No, Jacqueline, you can’t! You can go for a walk, hop over to the store and get yourself a box of Valentine’s chocolates, have a few FaceTimes with friends, but you still gotta write this thing! Can you tell by me talking in third person that I might be spending too much time alone🤪? It’s fine. I’ll be fine. This was the distraction I needed for today. Be proud of progress even if you’re in the middle of it✨. • I printed out what I’ve written so far for book 2 in #TheMousaiSeries to edit old school style and I am honestly shooketh😱. That stack! So many words! For some reason because I wasn’t done writing book 2, in my mind, that equated to mean I hadn’t written a lot, I hadn’t written enough. It had me in a place where I couldn’t feel proud of myself yet. Well, that’s a load of horse poop. And seeing this thick stack of 70k words reminded me of that. Even if it was 20k, 10k words, I should be proud to have made progress at all. The trick is of course finishing, but every word, paragraph, page typed after is movement forward. Often times I think we writers might forget, or not see, our accomplishments because they are stuck tiny in a computer. So I advice you, if you feel like you haven’t gotten anywhere with your writing, print out your pages so far to go over. You might be pleasantly surprised with what you hold in your hand 🙌❤️.
