The new Surfer’s Journal 29.3 includes a wonderful portfolio article on the beautiful photography and work of our amazing friend Sarah Lee! I am grateful beyond words to have been included in her portofolio piece with the photos that she took of me and my boy Ted in the Fall of 2018. About the photos: “Surfing with Ted” Ted loved being with me in the water. He also had a special love and connection with Sarah. We had the idea to do a surf shoot with Ted and planned a day when the waves where perfect for him...small and glassy. He was so excited when Sarah picked us up in her truck, jumping in the front seat he barked, “Let’s go!” before I could get our board straped to the roof. Sarah perfectly captured his gunn hoo spirit, a special happy moment in time that lives forever in my heart. “Furrow quiver shot” Sarah had an idea to do a quiver shot of the personal boards I ride during a shot for Axxe wetsuits. We decided on this wall, a place that is a very special to me. This is where I would meet my future husband 10+ years ago to surf, where we got married, as well being our backyard surf spot for many years. This post is so hard to write, but I know many of you loved my boy Ted very much so I feel the need to write this.. 4,726 days Ted blessed this earth with his beautiful, strong, compassionate, go-get-it-with- no-fear life. How blessed I was to share my life with him for those precious days. On Wednesday, August 21st, with a cool ocean breeze on his favorite soft grass at home, we helped set Ted free from the painful, ugly cancer that had filled his sweet, innocent physical body. He was in my arms, surrounded by his family, beloved pack, and sweet loving friends. The power, loss, and absence of his soul is strong in our house... a feeling that I don’t have words for. Ted gave life everything he had with the most love he could give without caring what anyone thought. He had an such infectious joy and smile. He was also very vocal about his zest for life, as many of you close to us know. We are grateful for all of our wonderful friends, family, and people that love Ted and have helped us through these trying last 6 months. Thank you for your kindness and love that you have given us. Every one of your prayers and positive vibes helped strengthen Ted to keep going each day. Ted was a fighter. What an epic battle he fought. We will try our best to honor Ted by moving forward... if he were here right now he would say,” Let’s go! Let’s go have fun and make an adventure out of each moment we have together! ” I feel so blessed to have been given the honor to raise, love, and to try to learn from such an amazing soul. He has helped me grow to be the person I am and I hope to learn to be as strong as him one day. Remember to count the days you have with those you love.
