Mace Windu was a Jedi Master from Haruun Kal and was revered as one of the greatest of his time, second only to Yoda. He was a senior member of the Jedi Council for many years. Windu was on the Council when Qui-Gon Jinn asked them to allow Anakin Skywalker to be trained as a Jedi Padawan. The council initially refused due to Skywalker's advanced age, but after Jinn's death, they allowed his Padawan at the time, Obi-Wan Kenobi, to train Skywalker. Years later, Windu led an attack force of 212 Jedi knights to rescue Skywalker, Kenobi, and Padme Amidala from the Genosians. This would lead to Battle of Geonosis, during which Windu beheaded bounty hunter Jango Fett, the battle that kickstarted the Clone Wars. He fought as a general during the Clone Wars along with all the other Jedi, leading troops of Clone Troopers to fight against the Separatist Movement. When the Clone Wars were ending, Skywalker told Windu that Chancellor Palpatine could be a Sith Lord and a Separatist. Windu confronted Palpatine along with three other Jedi knights. Palpatine singlehandedly killed the three other Jedi, but Windu was able to successfully subdue him. A conflicted Skywalker arrived and severed Windu's hand to protect Palpatine. The Sith Lord used force lightning to electrocute and throw Windu out of a window, killing him. Shortly following Windu's death, Anakin Skywalker became Palpatine's apprentice Darth Vader, Palpatine issued Order 66, and the rise of the Empire began.
