COLBULARE, the Head Cold POKEMON

It floats idly around cold mountain ranges, searching for any warmth to absorb. The structure on its head was once thought to be a parasitic structure, similar to PARAS and its mushrooms, but has been recently been debunked. No one knows what its for, but it tends to blink and react to things beyond this realm.

based loosely on brazilian treehoppers, the common cold (mostly for the bug pun), and snowflake shapes

a minor quibble ive always had with vipers design was the things they did to make her look “”female”” ie. slapped some eyelashes (which i never really got), lipstick, and flowers on her head. i get that it would be in her character to have those sorts of things and keeps visual interest, but on the other hand shes a snake. how do those flowers even stay on her head???

in the end, i pulled a bit of a tigress on her markings and made it look like makeup. you can still see the lotus shape evoked behind her eyes

as much as i love her tattoos, i did away with them in the redesign to reference something from her family lore in sotff-- her clan was said to descend from dragons, hence the elaborate markings that evoke how the scales on the spine of the dragon would look. it also looks like flames which is pretty cool. notably on her profile, there are markings from her eyes and going through her mouth which evokes either the fangs she doesnt have or the venom that she also doesnt have

its not something she has on her all the time, but the ribbon tied to the end of her tail is from her ribbon dancing. she could just cut the middle man of holding a stick when her tail can be the stick, you feel me?? id like to think that on the battlefield she has a shorter version of that ribbon as a purposeful distraction-- while the opponent is looking at the brightly colored tail, she (or another member of the five) can strike in their moment of inattentiveness
