Zack and Angeal. “Stars - Our characters under the stars together.”
Zack is too absorbed by the stars to avoid running into Angeal’s solid form. Angeal gives him a gentle warning look over his shoulder, one Zack has seen many times before. Pay attention, it says. Zack laughs a little, out of habit. “Sorry.”
“You better be,” Angeal huffs. “Could have scratched my sword.” He glances over his shoulder again and winks. Zack grins. “We make camp here.”
Between the two of them, the tent is pitched and the fire started in almost no time. Zack is poking at his food (the very best freeze dried ShinRa rations) when Angeal speaks again. “What had you so distracted?”
The teen looks up. On the other side of the small fire, Angeal watches him with an amused smile. “The stars.” He looks up again. The sun had gone down about two hours ago and the trees here are sparse enough to let him see the little white pinpricks covering the navy sky.
Angeal chuckles. Zack tries his hardest to give him a dirty look but he’s never been very good at that. “A country boy like you hasn’t had enough of stars yet?”
Zack puts his food down and stretches out on the ground, hands tucked behind his head. “Well, you can’t really see them in Midgar. Even on a good night…” He trails off as he searches for familiar constellations. He finds one, a vague shape that his father told him was a great warrior. “Reminds me of home sometimes.”
Angeal walks around the fire and lies down next to Zack. He gets comfortable and looks at the stars, really looks at them, for the first time in a while. “Me too.”
[Ah, this was a fun one. I think it turned out very cute.]
