THE CRIME(S): Murder, Aggravated Assault
THE SCENE OF THE CRIME: Downtown Brooklyn, 1950
THE VICTIM(S): Agent Benny Difiama, 35 and Aria Baudelaire, 25.
THE WITNESSES: Mae Evans (Barkeep)
THE ACCUSED: Alfonse Topolski (Bar Owner; Known Criminal; Non-Terrestrial)
THE MYSTERY: Agent Benny Difiama was found in the street mauled to death, with blood spatters on nearby walls and street. He had a gun in his hand that had just been fired. Aria Baudelaire was found with a single bullet shot wound to her chest, blood stains where the bullet entered and exited her body. Alfonse Topolski, the accused, was found at the scene of the crime with bloody on his hands, chest and face, as well as some defensive injuries on his hands. Alfie Topolski and Aria Baudelaire were a couple. He had no weapon. Mae Evans claims she witnessed the events, and that Difiama had been harassing the couple for some time, attempting to see the non-terrestrial jailed for petty crimes against the NYPD. There was a sign of struggle inside the bar in Topolski’s office, where Evans claimed the altercation had started with Difiama antagonising the accused. She claimed that Topolski did not fight back at first, and seemed no match for Difiama. Mae did not see the final moments of the attack, as she was asked to stay inside by Topolski, but heard a gunshot, Topolski cry out, and then the agonising screams of Difiama before everything went silent. Topolski claims that he was provoked.
“At the time on Earrrth, there wasn’t very many technologies to solve the crrrime, but I’m assuming that they didn’t have the technology that would allow them to look for fingerrrprints and DNA at the scene of the crrrime. I would start by questioning any and all people nearrr the scene to see what they had hearrrd beforrre prrroceeding to collect evidence and complete all the forrrensic analysis. My primarrry witness would prrrobbaly be Evans, who seems to have seen the events leading up to the crrrime, but not the crime itself. Eyewitnesses, howeverrr, are poorrr forrrr evidence as memories can be alterrrred. I’d worrrk the best with solid evidence as I always do.
