This impressive specimen is an impressive example of an ebalite tourmaline crystal formation called The Steamboat. It was found in San Diego County California in the Toumaline King mine at the beginning of the 20th century. The crystal itself was formed about 100 million years ago. #thesteamboat #toumaline #thesmithsonian #tresorsdujour (at Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History)
