Every single morning, for the past few years, the first thing I’ve done is thank God for blessing me with another day of life, despite how bad or how good the previous day was. And today is no different. . . . In the past year I’ve had the pleasure of doing some pretty dope things. But it has also been filled with its fair share of shitty situations. I had a pretty severe allergic reaction (think Hitch, but worse), went through some deep depressive states, missed a dear friends’ wedding, got laid off, etc. etc. But, on the flip side, I got a couple speaking engagements under my belt, made it to the front row at Beychella, officiated a couple weddings, expanded the GrUBcast, started pursuing my dream of acting, and finally got a job that I can say I actually enjoy for the first time in my adult life. And that’s just a fraction of the multitude of great things to happen this past 365. . . . I usually say the year has been bittersweet, but I’ve come to realize that is actually neither bitter nor sweet. It just “is”. Life is not without it flaws, just as it is filled with possibility and promise. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in these short 26 years, it’s that every single thing, good, bad or otherwise, happens for a reason. We may not understand it in the moment it happens, but months years or decades down the line we may finally be able to say “I understand”. . . . Thank you all for the birthday wishes, all the support over the past year, all the love ya’ constantly send my way, and here’s to hoping the good continues to outweigh the bad on the road to 27.
