Into the Darkness || AU || theuchihaheir

"And that is your mission, Naruto." The blonde nodded as he listened to the Godaime's words, his mask remaining over his face as he stood in a complete upright position. He wondered why it was only him that had been chosen for this particular assignment, but after listening to all the specifications, it was obvious why he was.

He was called to investigate an area where a high-class missing nin had been spotted and to assassinate on the spot if he was seen. It wasn't something that was unusual for the nature of his rank but what was located in the area is what sparked his interest. 

Sasuke's hideout.

He tried not to let his eagerness to investigate that as well overwhelm him, his assignment came first and foremost. But... He couldn't help but be interested in it. After a quick salute, the young jinchuuriki turned his back and headed out of the building. 

As he headed out towards the village gates, he began to think about his course of action while making sure he had everything that he needed. What would happen if he encountered the raven? He hadn't seen him at all since he joined the ANBU, but with the way his missions went, it didn't surprise him. He knew they purposely didn't assign him to missions that involved the Uchiha since who knew what his emotions would do at the sight of him.

As the village gates neared, Naruto immediately picked up his pace, exiting as quick as possible as he headed towards the location he was assigned. It wasn't too far from the village, but it was further than he expected. He began hiding himself, making sure to be as quiet as possible as he ran through the trees and bushes. The nin he was looking for could be anywhere, they never were in the place he was told. 

He perched himself up on the highest branch he could find while still remaining hidden. He scanned the area before noticing the abandoned building in front of him. Once he noticed the coast was clear, he jumped off and walked towards it. 

It was almost pitch black, almost like nobody had taken care of it for years. It was almost a perfect place for someone to hide but then again, why would someone stay in such a place. He let out a deep sigh, becoming oblivious to his surroundings for a moment. "Why me 'ttebayo..."

Then... A sound. Naruto immediately hid himself as he looked around once more. His moment of carelessness caused him to miss any presence that might have been close by. He remained cautious as he tried to make out the figure.
