2001: A Space Odyssey Review
When this movie was released in 1968 nobody understood it, people and critics alike left the theatre in bemusement, they may not have known what they'd seen but they knew they'd seen something special. This is a movie you are not supposed to understand, part of its brilliance (most of it actually) is its sense of mystery. This movie is slow, by today's standards very slow but if you just sit back and watch it less as entertainment but more as art, you can't help but admire it or be inspired by it. Visually this movie is stunning, many of shots in this movie I would quite happily frame and put on my wall, Kubrick's composition is like a moving painting, Beautiful. The overall effect of this movie is mesmerizing, from the opening sequence with the apes, HAL-9000 and the events on the Discovery and finally the mind-altering finale which leaves you with more questions than answers. Overall if your a lover of blockbusters and big noise and explosions this movie probably isn't for you, its artful and considered but beautiful, if you enjoy movies that ask the biggest of questions this the movie for you. This isn't really a movie to be honest it's an experience...and one you'll never forget
