Sherlock, in general, loathes his birthday. A remnant of one too many parties in his youth in which his mother made him open presents in front of everyone. Naturally, John knows this, so instead, he comes home to find a fresh, hot cup of tea perfectly sweetened, a small piece of cake with a candle on it, and a case file with a big red bow for a truly fascinating Peruvian locked room murder all waiting for him at his favorite seat at the desk. The best brithday present John ever got WT? Really fancy paste jewels in the shape of bees for his Etsy Barrettes. He flails so much when Sherlock opens him that he knocks over three Erlenmeyer flasks full of acid. John, for once, thinks it's worth it.

WT has two birthdays. The day that marks the anniversary of the lab accident that brought the tentacles to 221B and also Sherlock's birthday. Mainly because he's greedy and doesn't understand why Sherlock's getting all the attention on January 6th. Don't they realize it's only ever about wt? (And maybe a little bit about John's bum).

(So excited for this... Happy birthday, love!) - It's a truth generally acknowledged that a WT in possession of a birthday hat must be in want of a smash cake. John and Hudders always come through for him, and John doesn't complain even a little about having to clean frosting out of every nook and cranny of the kitchen. Well... maybe a little, but wt's wriggling in excitement and his little hat's askew, and John doesn't really have the heart to mean any of his bickering.

I just keep imagining Sherlock being an arse to John about his leftiness (fellow lefty here), but WT goes behind him frantically fixing all of the things Sherlock deliberately does to annoy him. This would make things better, but when Sherlock thinks about tormenting John this way, he's so focused on the good doctor that WT can't help but lube a little, which only leads to coffee cups and notebooks and scissors covered in WT juice.
