Also (sorry for the long ass message) I noticed that you were talking about expanding on the research, and I think that's really incredible! If you do, and you happen to make another chart for whatever reason, might I suggest using a number system as opposed to a grading scale? Only because the post goes more on a scale of A+ Liberal and F Conservative, and while I personally agree mostly, a grading scale might reflect bias and deter some people from reading on :/
My post is meant to reflect bias in the sense that it was designed to rate how well candidates measure up to progressive views, with an audience of activists and progressives in mind. It was never meant to be an objective post. That said, I have considered using a more objective format considering that my post wound up having a wider audience than I thought it would, but one problem is finding another format has been difficult, as I explain here.
As you can see in the link, there’s downsides in the amount of space most other methods would take up and how they lack the nuance and quick transmission of info a letter grade has. The problem with an unbiased number system like you suggest (as opposed to a scoring system which is practically the same as a letter grade) is that it doesn’t really communicate anything on its own without explanation. And I’d probably have to set up unique criteria/explanation for each issue’s number score. And at least letter grades have a clear meaning right when you look at them. But I’ll keep your suggestion in mind.
