Reunited and it feels so good, please!
Excellent choice! That's my Mighty and Ray reunion fic~
Sonic laughed and ruffled his fur, then continued running along the tracks, this time keeping an ear out for Tails until they reached the Mystic Ruins. Leaping from the raised tracks, Sonic rolled up into a ball and dropdashed down to the snowy field below. He rolled through the snow until it slowed him down too much for his liking. Uncurling into a stretch, he glanced back over his shoulder for Tails. He was hovering in the air a little ways behind him, gaze fixed on the workshop at the top of the hill. Sonic's ears perked up as Tails quickly flew to him and grabbed his hand. "Hey, what's—" "Someone's outside the workshop.” Sonic’s gaze snapped towards their makeshift home, but he couldn't see anything apart from the roof sticking up over the edge of the steep hill. "Huh. Wasn't expecting company." Precious few knew that the workshop in the Mystic Ruins was their base of operations, so to speak. Sonic wasn't even sure if Eggman had put two and two together. He'd run into them here several times now; too many times for it to be completely coincidental, but he'd yet to make a major move on them here. Sonic had a feeling he was still licking his wounds after ultimately failing at controlling Chaos, but he was also known for bouncing back quickly. It wouldn’t be long before he came crawling back to cause them all trouble. Sonic gave Tails's hand a reassuring squeeze, then let go so he could dash up to the workshop and scope it out. See for himself what was going on. He zipped along the back of the building, up onto the balcony for a good vantage point. Armed with a couple of snowballs, Sonic balanced on the balcony's railing. He tossed one up and down, catching it in his own palm repeatedly as he looked down at two figures casing the ground level. "Don't know what you're expecting to find here, but I'm more than happy to give you a parting gift for your troubles," he called down, fully prepared to pelt the smaller of the two with the snowball, until they lifted their head to look up at him. Sonic missed catching the snowball and it fell to the ground with a splat. "Ray?" His voice was so thin, barely there as he stared into the eyes of what might as well have been a ghost. "What…?" "Well, that's some welcome. Though I shouldn't really be surprised. You always had the worst manners." That voice. Sonic tore his gaze from the flying squirrel to seek out his companion instead. A red and black armadillo had his arms crossed as he craned his head back to look up at him. Though his brow was arched, like he was the one who deserved answers here, there was still a hint of amusement threatening the corners of his mouth. "Mighty?" Sonic breathed. His shell finally cracked and the smile he wore was warmer than the words—a smile Sonic hadn't seen for over five years. "Hey, Sonic. Long time no see."
