if something happens with johnny on the field, ghost goes batshit crazy. no amount of yelled orders from price to 'calm the fuck down ghost' would have any effect on him. he is unhearing. ghost will single-handedly go through hell and back to get his johnny safe. there's no metaphor in it, in the seas of corpses he'll leave behind, in the absolute slaughterhouse he'll turn himself into; just a monster, tearing the earth open for his life partner. and when he will eventually reach johnny (because he will find him), no matter that he's abandoned his humanity in the process, he'll get him the fuck back to base, in medical, and swear to him, that there'll never-ever be a time in his life where he'll let johnny out of his sight anymore. and he takes it up on that. man will never let soap the fuck alone. no solo missions anymore, no more separations.
so it makes sense that they both experience separation anxiety like woah, but it looks slightly different on each other. for example, ghost physically needs to follow johnny everywhere. johnny wakes up at 4 am to take a piss? it's ghost's "boyfriend obligation" (like a cat hihihi) to follow him into the bathroom, hair a birds-nest and eyes puffy from sleep, into the dingy, yellow halogen light and hug him from behind. it doesn't matter that johnny whinges that "love, i cannae hold me own cock straight like this, i'll feckin piss on the toilet seat." simon doesn't care. he won't budge.
on the other hand, johnny gets really antsy when he's away from ghost for more that a week. he worries too much, constantly thinking what if something happened with ghost? what if he's lonely? what someone ambushes him and johnny's not there to help?? and god how he hates sleeping alone. well, no, 'sleeping' is putting it nice, he can't really sleep at all. the only moments when he's able to catch some shut-eye is when simon leaves him one of his hoodies, that smell like him, to help with the anxiety. johnny never talks about this with price tho, he thinks that price will think less of him if he finds out that one of his soldiers (a six foot grown fucking man with dick and balls) loses his mind when his boyfriend's not there and needs a piece of old cloth to hold him together. so that's why he kinda keeps it all to himself, internalised. it doesn't really affect his performance in the field much per se, as long as simon's back with him in no longer than a week, so it's all good.
when they do see each other again (and they will bcz i'll die of they won't), it's with overexcessive affection and eagerness, it's like they're physically glued to one another. and they have a lot of tender sex afterwards bcz they need it.
