Thing 8 Health & Wellness
I downloaded Human and I love it! I’ve been trying to carry my phone with me everywhere so I get in my 30 minutes of activity each day. This has been the hardest part. For instance, today at work I am wearing pants without pockets, and I don’t always remember to bring my phone with me so miss out on recording activity. I like the way it shows whether the activity is consecutive or not. Since I downloaded it three days ago, I have yet to have 30 consecutive minutes of activity, but I’m hoping to change that.
I also downloaded a pedometer but am not sure if it is working properly as it is showing steps for days before I downloaded the app. Maybe my phone was already keeping track? I’m still an iPhone newbie and trying to learn it as I go.
SO, I looked a little deeper at my iPhone and located the Health app that is already installed. It has a ton of stuff that isn’t being recorded and I haven’t yet figured out how to add it. I’m guessing some may relate to the Apple Watch or some other Fit Bit type device.
All in all, I like this chance to make myself more aware of my activity and health.
Thing 8
I already had the Facebook and Twitter apps, but installed HootSuite. I like it, because it pulls both accounts into relatively unbranded feeds and allows me to post to both Facebook and Twitter at once, or just one at a time. It's a handy tool, and I imagine it's handy in the non-mobile version, as well. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to pull in my library's Facebook page, which I manage through my account. Integrating that page's management and my professional Twitter account would be much more useful. Still, I plan to keep this app on my phone for now and see if I use it more than either Twitter or Facebook alone.

Looking myself up on Pipl was a little eerie. Apparently there are several other Andy/Andrew Foskeys around the country. I have never met any of them. Several of the links were not active, such as my old Myspace profile and an Amazon wishlist. I think that maybe you need to be logged into to those sites in order to see the pages. I didn't investigate further.
I also found a link my MERLOT profile. Apparently when I started this job, I created an account and then never logged in again! Maybe that is something I should go back and check on...
I also found a dead link to our old library page. And I came across a link to a profile on PeopleFinder, which lists me as living in Atlanta, and says that I am 33 years old (not until November... sorry PeopleFinder!). PeopleFinder and Pipl are similar, but the former wants you to pay to see any real results. It did include the names of my immediate family, which is totally creepy.
Here is the link to my birthday portfolio on Pathbrite:

I like the way you instantly have something to look at, simply by creating an account. It kind of hooks you in and makes you want to come back for more! I could see Pathbrite being very useful for our yearly evaluations. We could showcase a few projects from the past year that we were most proud of, or use it to set goals for the future. You can really make a portfolio for just about anything.
8. My school is retarded and didn't notice that I had already completed my biology requirement. I'm on pins and needles, waiting for the one hour approval so I can blow this joint.
cpd23: Things 8 & 9 (Google Calendar and Evernote)
I don't have much to say this week. I haven't needed to use something like Google Calendar in the past but I'm sure it will be useful to me in the future. Perhaps the LIS course tutors will set up something like this for us. I'd push for it.
I've been using Evernote for a year now. I signed up so I could have a proper place to put all my favourite library and careers related stuff. Until then I had been bookmarking everything and it started to get too big and too messy. I recently discovered an even better application called Diigo. It's a more sophisticated web bookmarking/highlighting service. You can archive whole pages (it takes a screenshot so you need not worry about the link becoming broken in the future) or you can highlight specific things in a variety of colours and add your own sticky notes. I only discovered this app yesterday so I'm still exploring. If you do a lot of online reading - particuarly for research - then check it out.
