Being critical of digital pedagogies
These concerns are valid and I agree with most of them. The concerns of ‘technology can distract students from learning’ and ‘equity’ are the most common and general concerns I think. Some ways to eliminate these are for the school to offer iPads, tablets, or laptops so that all students, regardless of their economic status, have access to digital technologies and learning. A way to eliminate distractions is for schools to block certain websites and have 0 tolerance for them. Such as Facebook, game websites, and whatever websites are most commonly being used by youth (e.g fortnite server) and other IM websites which I know most schools tend to do, but some do not which is why there may be these limitations to using devices during learning.
I still agree with one of my first posts about using digital technologies in today’s world, because it is going to be evolving and get smarter and smarter as it progresses. We can not deny using it as it is going to be a way of the future, so it is important that we are teaching students a range of uses and resources to explore using digital technologies. I do not think that devices and digital technologies need to be used in every lesson of every day but it would be great to see a balance of technology and no technology in other lessons. Especially if it’s not necessary and only making the lesson more fussy, complicated and taking up learning time with admin work.
