people say those who notice autistic traits in tv characters are projecting but once you know a LOT of autistic traits you quickly realize a lot of tv humor & storylines depend on the characters acting autistic. saying socially inappropriate but well-meaning things, delayed processing, having rituals that nobody else understands the point of and being incredibly upset when they get screwed up, etc

#i’m watching #The IT Crowd #bruh when Moss tells the old lady ‘well you’re terrifically old’ and then somehow beats that wiv ‘at least it won’t be long til you’re dead’#(the last quote’s extremely paraphrased)#and then the next scene he throws a cup of coffee at the irish dude and goes on about his clever joke for 5 good seconds #before visibly realizing he’s fucked up his lil joke and thrown coffee all over his coworker #he goes on about it for soooo long before processing that his joke failed spectacularly #is that not delayed processing?!#a character being really good at one thing and absolutely awful at everything else #aka a spiky skill profile #hyper-empathy is a common one #talking about one or a few specific interests even when others normally wouldn’t #like c’mon #autism #this is ember
