hi lycan :D 1, 12 and 16 for the manga ask gameee
hiiiii lito omgg hiii
1. Your top 5 reads of 2023
this is really hard but here are my faves in no particular order:
dungeon meshi by ryoko kui. only got into reading it this year and it's one of my new faves of all time. such incredible art, wonderful characters, and writing that felt so rewarding, satisfying, and purposeful. i wanna read all of kui's works when i can, she's probably my new favorite mangaka
when the day comes by omyo. wauuugh. waugh. soooo beautiful and kind. treated relationships with both tenderness and seriousness. lovely lovely rec. definitely need to reread soon
skip and loafer by misaki takamatsu. we all know her we all love her. gives daily life such reverence and treats interpersonal relationships with so much nuance and care. each update drives me insane but also leaves me with such a warm feeling. live laugh loaf
the summer hikaru died by mok mok len. its one of those things that feels like it was made for me lol. i think there's such a lack of horror animanga and it excels at the horror, while also having gorgeous art and characters that i care so dearly for
no home by wanan. i mean what can i say. its no home. incredible story incredible characters satisfying writing. mwah. psychological warfare the manhwa
okay and a bonus bc i couldn't leave this one out!! run on your new legs by wataru midori !!!! i heard about this one on a whim and no one else has read it, it was so so good. a short and sweet sports/slice of life that gave parasports such passion and care. highly recommend
12. A manga that made you look forward to every update
SKIP AND LOAFER SUMMER HIKARU DIED AND NO HOME EASYYYYYY. skipping homing dying through this year
16. A manga that disappointed you
very very easily choujin x by sui ishida. i'd never read any of ishida's work before (only watched some of tokyo ghoul aaaaages ago) and when i heard he was writing smth new i wanted to give it a shot. i've been reading it as its been serializing the last few months more just as something to get through bc i've mostly found it pretty uninteresting and immature, and then i very very recently dropped it bc the sexualization of women and girls in it is just so disgusting and never stops. has def turned me off to his work. idk i'll probably still try reading tokyo ghoul at some point just to see, but im not super hopeful if this is what his writing is like lol
