A Handyman of Sorts (Forrest & Meredith)
@mer-wilson
It didn’t take Forrest a long time to figure out that solely working at Quincy’s wasn’t going to cut it. Man could not live frying burgers alone. He printed off a couple of fliers and pasted them all around town with glue that he had nicked from the local hardware store.”Need work? Call 330-142-9087. Will work for cheap,” they all said in thick Times New Roman. His customer base, if you could even call it that, was mostly made of up people who need work done but were to cheap to hire professionals to do it. Need to move furniture but don’t want to hire movers? Forrest is the guy you call. He did other things too, he did all manner of things. There really were not a whole lot of things that he wouldn’t do and he’d be down to do anything for the right price. He didn’t like most of the people who hired him to do shit for them but he did like the cash so he pretended. He pretended that he liked them and he pretended that he cared. He could be quite likeable when he felt like it and whenever he was getting paid, he felt like it. That was how he had ended up working for Mrs. Wilson. Forrest really wasn’t a fan of the older woman. Her house smelled like mothballs and she had an affinity for those creepy porcelain children but she paid well. She paid better than anyone else and that made Forrest willing to forgive her for all of her other transgressions. The first time she had him do something for her, he replaced the light switch in the backroom of her house and the next time he fixed the garbage disposal. Today, he was replacing a ceiling fan. It was easy stuff for him. With his dad gone, his mom had quickly passed all of the ‘fixing up the house’ jobs to him so most of the work Mrs. Wilson had hired him to do he’d done before. He showed up to her house early, tired but ready to get it over with so he could spend several hours in the kitchen at Quincy's cooking unhealthy food for people who really didn’t need it.
