It's been a little bit since I did a little fic outline thing-y but the fic goblins are whispering again and reminded me I've had this AU sitting in my brain for a bit so time to get it out there.
TL;DR:
Obi-Wan calls the Haat Mando'ade for help with ending the Melida/Daan war
he leaves with (and eventually) gets adopted by Mandos
Obi gets involved in the Haat Mando'ade vs Kyr'stad war and ends up facing off against Tor Vizla and wins the Darksaber making him Mand'alor
While Obi is focused on bringing the Mado empire together (i.e. making nice with the New Mandos, fully squashing Death Watch, caring for/bringing in planets who want to be/historically were under Mando protection) other canon events are happening and we get to the clone wars
Obi and others are horrified when they learn about the clones partly because everyone thought Jango had died so learning he's been off doing this is bad enough but mostly they are horrified by how the Republic is treating the clones
Obi and others are not having it; they push through laws within their own government to recognize the clones as sentient beings and recognizing the clones as basically their own clan
Obi busts his way into the Senate and basically says 'Hey recognize the clones as sentient beings, members of the Mando empire and contract their services as warriors OR we'll see this as you kidnapping and enslaving mando kids and we'll be coming for your asses and you'll have to deal with two wars'
The Senate is sent into more chaos as they try to figure out what to do
Obi starts working/communicating with some Clones (probably mostly the commanders, but definitely Cody because codiwan) explaining why the Mando empire recognizes the clones as Mandos even if Jango never did, there's plans already in place/being made on how the clones will be folded into the Mando empire after the war, anyone who wants to keep fighting can keep fighting but any who don't do not have to (the New Mandalorians are very excited to accept anyone who wants to lay down their weapons)
This obviously fucks with the Sith Plot
Anakin feels drawn to the Mand'alor (platonically), enjoys talking to him especially as the guy seems to have a surprising amount of insight into how the Jedi work and has some thoughts about their philosophies, Anakin finds himself looking more towards the Mand'alor as a confidant instead of reaching out to Palpatine
As part of forcing the Senate to recognize the Clones as Mandos, Obi sends some trusted Mandos to Kamino and they start asking a lot of questions about the process especially about these inhibitor chips they've learned about and find out about the Orders
one thing leads to another and Palpatine is brought down, the Clones get officially recognized as sentient beings, many taking the oath to become official mandos, everyone lives happily ever after - Yay!
If you are inspired in any way by this please go ahead an make the thing (art, comic, fanfic, etc) just please send me a link to the thing so I can see it (and share it) too!!!!!
For some of my more detailed thoughts about this AU, check out under the cut (be prepared it is a lot, I've been thinking about this AU for a long time)
We're diving right into Melida/Daan; Obi-Wan has been left and he's working on helping The Young end the war
things are not going well, moral is low, and Obi-Wan is very worried that they're not gonna win this
they need help but who can they ask?
The Jedi are obviously out (if they haven't come for him by now (it's been at least a year), then they're not coming at all)
Obi digs deep into his memory, sifting through all the different culture lessons the Jedi taught him, and finally comes up with a vague memory about Tarre Vizla and Mandolarians, most importantly he remembers something about how much mandos care about children
it's a long shot, Obi knows that, but they need help or the Young are going to die and he cannot let that happen
so he sends out the distress call for any mando to come help, emphasizing that children are in peril
The mandos of course answer the call; specifically the True Mandalorians are the ones who come and help out
The Haat Mando'ade side with The Young (obvi) and help end the war
(Cerasi lives! Yay!)
Mandos are mandos though so when all is said and done many of them offer adoption to members of The Young
some say yes and some say no
Neild and Cerasi are both asked - both say no, they need to stay on the newly named Melidaan to lead, to make sure the peace lasts after the mandos leave
Obi is asked......he says not yet but he does want to leave
Cerasi and Neild offer Obi a spot in their newly built government leadership and Obi appreciates it, he loves them, but he can't stay (reason up to you: the force says go, trauma of being left behind by the jedi, some other third thing or combo of reasons)
Obi leaves with the Haat'ade and after traveling and learning more from them he decides that becoming a full member of the Haat'ade is what he wants (it fills the family & philosophy shaped holes left by the Jedi), he takes the oath and accepts the armor (and maybe even finally accepts someone's adoption offer)
As a member of that Haat'ade he finds himself involved in the war against Kyr'stad and for reasons he finds himself face to face with Tor Vizla
Tor doesn't really know how to fight with a lightsaber and tends to use the Darksaber like a normal sword - Obi knows how to fight with both, combine that with this force sense, and Obi beats Tor easily and wins the Darksaber
(I have a really clear image of Obi fighting Tor and taunting him about saber forms and also being able to hear the saber because the kyber is def more sentient than normal kyber - "Can't you hear it Tor? The Darksaber is speaking and it doesn't like you")
Obi is a little resistant to the idea of being Mand'alor (he knows that a lot of the Haat'ade still consider Jango Fett as their Mand'alor even tough he's been missing since Galidraan and have been following other leadership since then) but after hearing from trusted people that they support him taking the title he accepts the position
He immediately takes it very seriously wanting to prove that those who trusted him weren't wrong to let him take up the title and starts working to unite the different clans/factions and eradicating Kyr'stad
While Obi is focused on all that, canon things are happening in the background i.e. Qui-Gon finds and takes in Anakin (but survives (barely) the fight with Maul and becomes Ani's master); Jango is surviving, not telling anyone, and ends up with the Clone contract; all the other things etc
The Clone War kicks off surprising everyone
The Mandalorians are surprised for many reasons but the main ones being 1) everyone thought Jango was dead so to learn he was alive until the Battle of Geonosis is a hard hit 2) seeing how the Republic talk and treats the clones is horrific and goes against everything Mandalorians believe
Obi introduces the motions but it really doesn't take much for the Mando government to quickly make laws or whatever to recognize clones as sentient beings and that specifically the Jango clones are recognized as their own mando clan (the Vode Clan)
Obi as Mand'alor sends out squads of mandos to interfere with different battles happening and support the clones, sends people to check out Kamino, and he himself heads to the Senate
Cerasi and Neild (personally or using their Senate representative) help get Obi into the Senate and onto the floor to make his speech which boils down to 'Hey we see the Clones as sentients and a clan, so you need to either recognize them also as sentients and contract them as Mando warriors to fight your war OR we're gonna see this as the Republic kidnapping and enslaving mando children and we will be coming to free them and you'll be fighting two separate wars'
The Senate/Republic is throw into chaos trying to figure out what to do, they don't want to fight a secondary war but they also don't want to recognize clones as mandos for lots of reasons but mostly money for contracting an group of that size and the idea of giving The Mando Empire an army of that size
Obi knows enough about the senate (from his time as Jedi initiate/padawan and from keeping in contact with Cerasi and Neild) that he's willing to give them at least a little bit of time to decide and in the meantime his squads are still helping support clones in different battles (this is to help introduce more Mando culture to the clones, allow mandos to learn about the clones and pass the info on to their Mand'alor and other clan/government leaders, and get everyone used to each other because one way or another the clones will be recognized as Mandos); the group on Kamino are asking lots of questions about the creation of the clones, not just the actual cloning process but who created the contract, who paid for the clones, etc (Master Ti is very happy to work with them on this) and they learn a lot they are not happy with especially when the inhibitor chips get revealed; Obi in the meantime is demanding to work directly with a group of Clones so he can learn things about them directly and they can ask him about mando stuff
All of this messes with the Sith plot
even a small amount of mandos helping the clones on the battlefield leads to a big uptick in wins for the clone/Republic side even battles that involve Dooku/Ventress/Grievous
thanks to the Mandos on Kamino inhibitor chips are revealed to be control chips
Palpatine asks Anakin to get close to the Mand'alor for reasons (he's hoping Anakin can dig up some dirt that he can use against Obi to get his own plans back on track) but this backfires because Ani finds himself drawn to the Mand'alor feeling like they've always been meant to know each other, he actually likes the philosophical talks they end up in surprised by how much this guy knows about Jedi teachings and feels like he's starting to understand more about his own connection to the Jedi. Ani finds himself turning more and more to the Manda'lor when he has questions about his place with the Jedi and his relationship with Padme and this pulls him further and further away from the edge and keeps him from falling to the Darkside with Palpatine during the inevitable final confrontation
the Jedi are initially a little conflicted due to their history with Mandalorians but ultimately side with them because it becomes clear that the Mandos are genuine in caring about the clones and want what is best for them, so the Jedi do what they can to help like moving their support for the original Clone Rights Bill to having the clones recognized as mandos being contracted (especially if this means that the Jedi can step down as generals and let mandos and clones take those roles), those on the front lines getting help from mando squads encourage the clones to speak with the mandos and speaking with the mandos themselves to help coordinate on the battlefield, whatever helps the clones/lowers their involvement in the war/helps bring an end to the war
.......I don't really know how to get to the ending I want which is no Order 66, Palpatine revealed as Sith Master and likely killed (I don't think you can just arrest and imprison a Sith of his level without risk of him breaking back out/continuing to manipulate things into his favor), Anakin doesn't fall to the Darkside and the clones are recognized as sentient and a large portion of them take up the Mando oath and move to Mando space, and Cody marries Obi-Wan
This is already so long but I don't want to make separate post so here are some extra bonus thoughts in no particular order
Obi-Wan keeps his armor on at all times in public, he only removes his helmet in private around trusted individuals (which includes the the clone liaisons (Cody) he's working with)
Obi-Wan keeps his name when he joins the Haat'ade but some close friends or those who knew him when he was on Melida/Daan call him Ben sometimes; however, when it comes to the Republic he doesn't want to reveal his name because of his connection to the Jedi so he gives a new alias; I'm thinking that when he joins the Haat'ade and gets his own armor he uses a lot of white to symbolize his fresh start with them so when people ask for his name he offers Cin (for Cin Vhetin)
Part of the reasoning they give to recognize the clones as being Mandalorian is that they recognize Jango Fett as a previous Mand'alor remembered in their history as Mand'alor Jango Fett The Lost and the clones are seen by Mando society as his children even if Jango didn't see them that way
Obi does try to hide his identity from the Jedi because he still has some conflicting feelings about them and he's a bit worried about how the Jedi would react if they knew he became not just a mandalorian but Mand'alor and how that could impact their support of recognizing the clones as mandalorians
he definitely does his best to avoid both Qui-Gon and Yoda but has no issue with connecting with Anakin and Ahsoka (or Feemor if you want to include him)
Bo-Katan who has found her way into being Obi's close friend and supporter (he helped rescue her from death watch/supported her become a warrior against Satine's wishes) knows some of the more personal details of Obi's time with the Jedi and definitely punches Qui-Gon in the face when her squad drops in on one of his battles
Obi and his close mando friends who know his story and how he got left on Melida/Daan make a lot of pointed comments about how Jedi do not fight wars/aren't generals
Another clear scene in my mind is Bail Organa speaking with Neild & Cerasi about the mysterious Mand'alor; Bail has a connection with the two due to Alderaan providing support to Melidaan post war; he's curious about why they support the Mand'alor and helped give him the floor in the Senate to speak
I see something like Bail asking "Do you know him?" and Cerasi and Neild looking at each other in silence for a beat and then turning to look at Bail and saying in unison "From a certain point of view."
When it comes to Anakin besides not falling I'm not sure what I want to happen. Does he ultimately decide to leave the Jedi to be openly with Padme and raise his kids? Does he stay and push for reform within the Order? (if he stays I can see him getting support from Plo Koon who wants to adopt the Wolffe Pack and from Aayla Secura who wants to marry Bly but without having to leave the Order)
Obi's identity as a former Jedi Padawan gets revealed at some point, probably after a confrontation with Qui-Gon Jinn
the way the clones under Qui-Gon's command feel about their general definitely changes after learning how he left Obi-Wan on a war torn planet at what they would consider cadet age
Anakin and Ahsoka also deal with some conflicting feelings after the reveal
I want Obi-Wan to be allowed to tell Qui-Gon how angry and hurt he was by everything (if he forgives Qui-Gon is up to you, Obi-Wan probably would, but I also think its okay if Obi-Wan never forgives him for leaving/never coming back)
but also want him to be surprised by how many Jedi are happy to see him and still care for him, you've got his friends like Bant and Quinlan who are over the moon to learn he's alive (there was some doubt about his living status after Melidaan declared peace and re-entered the Republic public stage and the Young never made any sort of statement about what happened to bring that peace or the padawan that was left with them) and they can spend time with him again; then there's also people like Mace and Depa and others who always cared but for one reason or another *cough* yoda's meddling *cough* weren't able to show it much and others like Aayla (who heard lots of stories from her master about his childhood best friend and all the antics they got up to as initiates)
also there needs to be a scene where Obi-Wan gets involved in a fight (pre-obiwan identity reveal for sure, but also maybe even before or shortly after he first visits the senate as Mand'alor) something like him dropping into a front line battle and whipping out the Darksaber and just demolishing the droid army; everyone being confused not just by the saber but by the weird mix of forms he uses, the Jedi (and clones who work closely with their Jedi generals) can recognize some basic and maybe some slightly advanced official lightsaber forms mixed with the mado beskad forms and him knowing those forms definitely adds to the Mand'alor's mystery before the Obi-Wan identity reveal
Okay that's it! Those are all the thoughts I have (currently) about this AU
If you read all of this bless your heart cause I know this was a lot. One day I'll learn how to condense my thoughts or maybe edit them down to make shorter outlines that probably won't ever happen but whatever
Oh my God ikr! The amount of people ready to call crisana and davenzi boring is honestly terrifying. Evak and remakes stans always take it too far (even right now in the wtfock tag, it's apparently sobbe's first meeting or some shit and everyone are just completely unacknowledging a season going on). It doesn't matter now cause it's a racist's season, but what if it had been yasmina's? Elu stans did the same thing with imane's season, and evak stans with og sana. Worse than that, (cont.)
They refuse to see crisana and davenzi as evaks and why? Cause it's not two conventionally hot white boys kissing? It makes me so mad because I saw myself in cris. Her coming out gave me strength. And people turn around and ignore them. They are so unfairly underrated because the straight girls in the fandom (which is the majority) can't fetishise them and thereby deem them boring. They don't care about good rep, all they care about is their "smol beans making out against a wall’. (Which is a real sentence I saw someone say) and their hot white boy saviour fantasy that always ends up overshadowing the sana's season. That's probably why I loved druck s4 so much, there were no annoying people asking for the even's backstory, every single detail of the even's life and to constantly see them kissing, and I could enjoy amira's journey in peace with a considerable amount of my favorite evak. (Sorry, my word count kept running out so I had to send it in three parts)
I agree with so many points that you’ve made here. Honestly this season of wtfock is complete shambles so I totally get people wanting to see the characters they love (i just draw the line at people wanting sander to call out the racist when it’s not his place and i am a sander stan.) People not liking davenzi carries so much transphobia in it’s undertone. Ultimately, the story of the evaks is very very similar. Some changes here and there so of course you are allowed to have favourites. I do, of course. So if you are making an evaks rating or talking about YOUR particular favourites, fair play. If you are doing a pool kiss edit, a OHN or a party kiss edit, fair play. Not every evak had the same scenes. But when you are talking about all the evaks that exist, making pretty edits or videos and you exclude the only ones that are not the cis boys, I cannot help but to wonder why that is. And my wondering doesn’t last for too long because I know exactly why it is. My issue isn’t with the heteros lmao because I keep seeing bi women and other identities doing the same ( you are fetishizing a character that represents a person that would not feel attraction towards you. the evens?? sure but talking about the isaks in a sexual manner when they are gay and you are a woman is beyond gross). I will forever call out the disgusting fetishization of these mlm couples. Not to sound like a gatekeeper but I hate having to share my fave characters with these people. Do you like them because of their story, because of their love or do you like them because uwu cute bois making out?? Ask yourself this question over and over. Loving these couples because you feel represented, because you love their love is so valid. Wanting to see two boys bang is also valid, just be straight forward with that so I can understand what you are really about.
Hi there! Love your blog and want to ask, but how did you pick up Adobe After effects and how long did you take to master it? I've tried to self learn this software but it's a really steep curve for someone with no design background and I really want to pick up and effect or to to improve my videos. Thank you lots!
Hello!! I’m really sorry for replying to you so late! I’ve been in some sort of hiatus for the past weeks, I usually check Tumblr’s notifications but problably missed the one of your ask, sorry again ;;
Thank you so much for loving my blog, it makes me happy! About your questions I’ll try to answer them the best I can ; v ;future-me says: sorry for the lenght of this reply, i probably wrote and digressed too muchfuture me says x2: i wrote a book, oops
I started editing like 10 years ago, more or less (?)For me editing was and still is a way to express myself, a “simple” hobby but also a way to distance myself from stress, anxiety and daily life. Everything I know is self-taught, I don’t have a design background either anon! and oh i so regret this ah ah *cries*
I didn’t start with After Effects, my first editing program was Movie Maker for real, movie maker…From the beginning MM wasn’t really doing it for me, too many limitations and few effects and such so I started looking up for a decent and more professional program to use. After MM came Sony Vegas 7.0 (I’m not sure but I think the last version now is SV Pro 15? Maybe? I still use the 7.0 version to edit though, along with After Effects CS6).Sony Vegas was pretty different from MM, better in every aspect but also difficult for a beginner. Years ago tutorials weren’t so common on YT like they are now also little-me probably didn’t know tutorials even exist, eh… so the only way I learned was through trials and errors, I kept editing and editing and moving things around, trying effect after effect, downloading plug-ins (additional effects and transitions) and so on, first videos were of course terrible, really terrible, but as time passed I kept improving and finally grasped the basics of the program. Still terrible videos but at least I knew my way around.i keep saying “terrible” but little-me ofc didn’t think her videos were terrible, it’s just that looking back now present-me has a totally different opinion, it’s been a long wayI discovered After Effects thanks to YT, after watching some amvs/mmvs with really cool effects in it can’t remember when but it was around 2012 i think, because it’s the year i first uploaded a video made with both SV and AEAfter Effects was totally on another level, if I thought SV was difficult AE completely destroyed me o v oi thought AE would be similar to SV, an editing program is still an editing program right? being able to use SV meant being able to use a different editing program no? what could ever go wrong… silly me ah.I was used to the way SV worked and AE mindblowned(?) me in a bad way, everytime I opened the program I would get these big headaches and ugh, i didn’t enjoy working with it one bit. I looked up for tutorials, basic tutorials such as “how to add/select clips”, “how to render/what are the best render settings”, “how to add effects/transitions”, “how to mask”, etc., it felt like learning how to edit from scratch again, totally demotivating, it was too hard for me so I gave up, focusing myself back on SV.After some time I sort of hit a wall, I wasn’t happy with my editing style anymore, I wanted to improve and try new things, I felt like SV wasn’t enought for the videos/projects I had in mind, I kept seeing cool videos on YT with effects/transitions I wanted to use so I decided to open AE once again. It was still hard, the only difference is that instead of giving up like the previous time I forced myself to work and edit with it, I watched a lot of tutorials like A LOT, bless who creates tutorials and managed to learn more and more. The first time I was probably too impatience, I wanted to learn and see results right on the spot, a bad mindset of course.
You’re asking me “how long did you take to master it” but “master” is a big word for me, I don’t feel like I “mastered” AE, there are still things I don’t know. What I can tell you is that I’m comfortable using it now, I know the basics and probably some advance things too.If you want to improve your editing/videos and have decided to pick up AE please don’t give up! Persist, keep trying, if you fail or you’re not content with what you made try again, I know it’s easier said that done but at the end it will be worth it.Making mistakes is super ok, mistake after mistake is how we improve and get better, you can do it anon!i say “keep trying” but remember that breaks are important too, if you can’t do something take a break (a day, two, how many you want), breaks help us clear our minds! Also, don’t stress yourself too much, it’s ok wanting to improve but editing is first of all something you enjoy/have fun with and stressing too much over improving can cause that enjoyment/fun to disappear. Improving comes also from experience, so edit, learn at your pace and have fun!
As a self learner watching tutorials is the key tutorials are our friends, imo you should proceed in small steps and in order. Become familiar with the work area and the basics, it’s important to know where everything is, how to add the footage/clips into the project, how to select the scenes and import them into the timeline, how to duplicate or split them, you need to know how effects and transitions work (you learn this once and you’ll be ok for the rest of your life, every effect and transition work almost in the same way, of course they have different settings to change but they all work pretty much the same, you know how one work and you know them all. This applies to clips too, they have their own settings too), how to add text, how to mask,… It seems a lot of work and sure it is, but it’s also not so difficult as you might think, once you’ll get used to the program it’ll be a lot easier to move around and learn new things. if you feel like a tutorial doesn’t make you go anywhere then change/find another one on the same subject, a change in the way something is explained can make a difference.Do you have something that you find particularly hard to understand? I can try to help (?), I can link you tutorials or directly explain that “something” to you? (???)Have a nice day~!
Considering every gal here comes from a different part of the globe, and even though most of them speak English, it doesn’t mean that their home places don’t show in their speech and / or in their pronunciation of something. This is a list regarding the accent (if any), the frequency, the presence of said accent… and anything else that might be of note.
salice.
Italian accent; sometimes it’s thick, sometimes it’s thin. It depends. It’s obvious with how she elongates the consonants sometimes and in how she doubles them in words which lack double consonants, and sometimes she purposefully accentuates “r”s and “s”s to make fun of how English-speaking people think that Italians speak. Professionally, she has a very good English pronunciation, although sometimes her Italian slips.
Native language pops up when she’s upset, or when she can’t find the right word in English. Very much swears in Italian when she’s fed up with a colleague (who doesn’t know the language) and can, at times, out of spite, end up speaking entirely in Italian to upset or tickle a person that’s irritating her. Very brief intermissions in Italian when she speaks with strangers (i.e.: “Today’s weather is… eh… come si dice “un casino”… cazzo. Um. It’s kinda bad, right?”).
Knows Croatian. Briefly. Enough to smooth talk you if you wish. Her mother taught her the strict necessary so to communicate properly with her now dead grandparents (aka her own parents), so she’s stuck with an extra language. It’s actually nice to talk further shit about someone and have them wonder what she’s on about.
When she speaks Italian, she has a strong Venetian accent and rhythm, inclusive of profanities and swearing. Very colorful in the latter thanks to her father’s creativity.
adona.
Italian accent, as Salice: except it’s visibly there, consistently, enough to make it obvious she’s a foreigner. She has difficulty in pronouncing “k”s (and thus “ch”s / hard “c”s in Italian) due to her Tuscan rhythm and dialect. Like Salice she loves accentuating consonants like “t” and “r”. Her English pronunciation isn’t terrible but her Italian is obvious enough to make the way she speaks pretty interesting.
Adona has a perfect mastery of English, despite the speaking, and if she ends up speaking Italian it’s rarely out of her control. When she does use her native tongue it’s on purpose, and she either does it to confuse her conversational partner or because she doesn’t feel like stirring her brain too much. She often directly skips some words in English and says them in Italian because she doesn’t want to waste time on trying to figure it out.
She loves to use Italian when giving people nicknames, most of the time. She really enjoys distorting someone’s name in something absolutely ridiculous.
Gets really angry when people don’t get an Italian name right. Stereotypes don’t affect her, but butchered pronunciations absolutely do.
When she speaks Italian, she has an evident Tuscan accent (now I’m not an expert but considering she’s from Lucca, she has terminologies that are typically from around there), which means she doesn’t pronounce hard “c”s at all and has a generally funny rhythm in her speech. Also interesting swearing—mostly consists of “boia” and “maremma [insert insulting adjective of choice here]”.
phoebe.
Very weak Russian accent (specifically from the Moscow / central Russia area). Considering her excellency in languages, most of the time her pronunciations are impeccable, though there are times in which she might slip—mostly on consonants. But as I said, it doesn’t happen often. When it does, she feels thoroughly embarrassed about it.
Considering the specific area she’s been born & raised in, Phoebe speaks Russian with an akanye inclination. Research informed that akanye is a language phenomenon in which there’s a vowel reduction; it means most vowels get replaced with “a” in the pronunciation, and a consonant addition. When she speaks her native language she does, in fact, substitute most vowels with “a”.
Rarely slips into actual Russian, but when she does it’s either because she’s in Russia or either because she feels like speaking it (reasons may vary). She has mostly perfect knowledge and restraint over her tongue—the only occasion in which she may erroneously talk in Russian may be when she’s tipsy, but it never happened, and it doubtly will happen in the future.
kaede.
In English, she has a somewhat evident Japanese accent, although she has a good pronunciation. She mostly has difficulty (like most Japanese) enunciating “l”s and sh / ch sounds, but otherwise, she’s pretty good.
Might slip into Japanese without acknowledging it. Despite her good knowledge on languages, she might still break into her mother tongue because of various reasons: her clinical forgetfulness, nervousness, and insecurity. She’s never once stepped out of Japan so she had little to no time to practice her actual grasp on foreign tongue, which means she is extremely anxious when testing it out—plus, as I mentioned, her memory conditions are also an obstacle. Her memory sometimes also fails her when it comes to Japanese, so go figure.
Has a Kanto accent, and it was very prominent once, although it is not so much as of now (not enough evident for me to have to write it out, so to speak). Kanto dialect consists in the lack of distinction between phonemes that are distinct in standard Japanese (i.e.: “shiohigari” → “shioshigari”, “Shinjuku” → “Shinjiku”, “shichi” → “hichi”). Most vocalic sounds are reduced to “e” (i.e.: “taihen da” → “teehen da”, “sugoi” → “sugee”), and since “r” sounds are associated vulgar connotations and insults, they’re replaced with “n”, meaning that “wakaranai” becomes “wakan’nee“ and “okaerinasai” becomes “okaen’nasai“.
I know this is a bit to take in, but it’s important if she’s communicating with people that aren’t from the Kanto region, or from Tokyo in general. It dictates precisely where she’s from.
karmina.
Karmina possesses an anonymous Russian accent (as she’s not from any precise area) and has a mostly impeccable mastery on any language, meaning she never truly slips up in her “mother” language.
There’s not much to say about her because she possesses a multilingual ability which allows her to possess perfect knowledge on all languages in reading, listening, use and speaking—this means that as much as Russian is the language she’s grown up with, she’s as fluent in English like in French or in Greek.
Accents and dialects don’t apply to her. Like I said, anonymous accent. You can hear she’s from an Eastern European country but you can’t really tell exactly from where.
min-seo.
Korean accent, of course. She doesn’t have particular difficulty in pronouncing English words, however there might be times in which she fucks up because of her anxiety or her nervousness. Being dyslexic, she sometimes also ends up forming grammatically (structure-wise) incorrect sentences out of sheer confusion—this problem also happens in her mother tongue, of course.
She might slip into Korean only if very agitated or incapable of proper thinking and thus of translation from Korean to English. Probably will also pause and ramble in her mother tongue to remember words that are on the tip of her tongue.
She possesses, when speaking Korean, a Gyeonggi dialect, which means her manner of speaking is very laid back and informal (despite her antsy self). Postpositions ending with an “o” get often changed to “u” and the sentence final verbe “-yo” tends to become “-yeo”. The Gyeonggi dialect also adds “-nya?” at the end of questions (as funny as it may sound), and being born in a late generation, the pitch tends to go higher at the end of a sentence (this became common since the 1990′s).
Addresses “-unni” or “-oppa” whoever is older than her, even if just by a couple years—as much as she doesn’t care for people younger than her to do this in her regards, she feels like she has the duty to be courteous and polite, and thus addresses slightly older peers as such.
fujunko.
Her Japanese accent is evident but not enough to be made fun of. She mostly learned English because of the music she likes, which means she gained a somewhat decent pronunciation, but her emphasis on vowels and consonants is still there—much like Kaede, she has difficulty with “r”s and sh / ch sounds, but other than that, nothing else.
Completely aware of what language she speaks for the occasion. This means that if she talks Japanese with an English-speaking person, she’s doing it on purpose to destabilize them / confuse them. However there are times she talks Japanese to help herself remind of a word or an idiom she doesn’t quite remember.
Being born and raised mostly in Kyoto, she of course has an heavy Kansai dialect when speaking (a lot of Tokyo-born elders do in fact not really like this tendency of hers). Having the dialect a special rhythm pattern she’s easily recognizable, but since I don’t hate myself enough to want to determine exactly what pattern she possesses, I’ll be vague and simply list the differences that there are between standard Japanese and the Kansai dialect.
While in standard vowel reduction is frequent, the Kansai dialect lacks it. “Desu” is not pronounced “des” but actually “desu”, for example; hiatuses are replaced by an “e” (same as the Tokyo dialect, best example is “sugoi” becoming “sugee”); short wovels in monosyllabic words are elongated (i.e.: “ki” → “kii”, “me” → “mee”), and long wovels are instead shortened (i.e.: “sou da” → “so ja / se ja”).
They substitute “s” with “h” very often, meaning that “-san” becomes “-han”, “mahjo” becomes “masjo”, etcetera; “m” and “b” are often exchanged, consonants “z, d, r” are often confused with each other; and at last they often substitute “r” with “n” (i.e.: “nani siteru nen?” → “nani siten nen?”).
As I said earlier, this might sound stupid and complicated to point out, but it’s important if your muse is a Japanese native speaker! The dialects are all very much different from each other, and as research said, Kansai people are easy to detect simply because of the way they talk. Fujunko is perfectly identifiable because of how she speaks—every little bit of these listed details apply to her speech.
momoko.
When speaking English, Momoko is... passable. Her pronunciation is remarked by her Japanese accent (which always implies butchered “r”s and sh / ch sounds along with soft “z”s), and while she does know the language enough to substain a casual conversation, it’s very obvious that she hasn’t learned it at school, and that she is more or less self-taught in what she knows so far. This is mostly due to the fact that most of the websites she visits are in English: communication there is principally done via text, not speech.
Might easily slip into Japanese due to a myriad of reasons: she forgot the right word, she doesn’t know how to pronounce another, she’s nervous, and the list goes on. Momoko isn’t a conversationalist in general, let alone in a not-much-known language. She doesn’t have much control over switching from English to Japanese, but there are times in which she will change her language purposefully, either to spite or confuse the other person.
While conversing in Japanese, Momoko has a Kanto accent, much like Kaede. It isn’t super marked, but enough to make a person guess where she is from. Given her aggressive nature, her “r”s are much more marked and growly, and so are sounds like “p” and “t”.
marzanna.
Same case as Karmina: Marzanna’s origins can’t be pinpointed through observations on how she speaks, because she has a multilingual ability and an unspecified Eastern European accent. Some people have pointed out that she sounds a bit Polish, but in general her skill grants her perfect mastery on every modern tongue (including a few ancient ones).
This means she won’t slip in her “mother” language as she does not have a certain country of origin from the very start. If she changes language mid-conversation, it’s on purpose, with the main intention of concealing something or to tease her interlocutor.
Going by this logic, she has no accents or dialects to remark.
Perhaps the only odd thing that sometimes happens is when she erroneously uses in a phrase obsolete and archaic words that are no long part of the modern language she is speaking. A good example might be Japanese, like it could be Italian or English.
annaliese.
Annaliese is good at spoken English, but not excessively as to be good at handling casual conversation about anything. Her phrase structure might sometimes sound wonky and uncertain, since all she’s learned of the language is the very basics; all additional knowledge is all self-taught. She doesn’t regularly keep it up, however, since it isn’t all that important for her to know it. It’s rare for foreigners to step near the convent’s grounds.
Her German accent when conversing in English follows the three main stereotypical “rules”: almost every “w” is pronounced as “v”, sounds such as “b”, “d” and “g” are instead harsh “p”, “t”, and “k” (i.e.: “What's up, dog?” → “What's up, doc?”) and “sp”, “st”, “sk” become “ʃp”, “ʃt”, “ʃk” (with a SH sound instead of a plain S sound). A good extensive list on how it should sound like can be found here (x), but for simplicity you can keep in mind this info.
In German, Annaliese has a thick Central Thuringian accent, as she has been raised in Erfurt. In general, the Thuringian dialect is characterized by a rounding of the vowels, the weakening of consonants of Standard German (the lenition of the consonants “p”, “t” and “k”), a marked difference in the pronunciation of the “g” sound and a highly-idiosyncratic, melodic intonation of sentences. In many words, “b” is pronounced as “w”, “v” or “f” would be in Standard German (i.e.: “aber” (but) → “awer”).
Specifically present in the Central Thuringian are falling diphthongs (i.e.: “vater” → “voater”).
You seem really open and you have pretty ass vibes so I just wanted to share this with you. I have such a hard time opening up without overthinking literally everything. Even opening up sexually.. it's like I'm a sexual person, and I have plenty of sexual thoughts but when I actually think about opening up sexually to someone I get self conscious. Did you have thoughts about your body and stuff when you first opened up? How do I overcome it? Thank you in advance babe..
Awww omg I love you so much. 🌷 okay so Ive rewritten this like three times and it always ends up like four paragraphs long because there is so much I want to say! so Im going to try and paraphrase everything into a shorter answer. So I am like the queen of overthinking absolutely every little thing down to the tiniest detail—especially when it comes to opening up—so I can completely understand where you’re coming from. I would absolutely consider myself a sexual person and I honestly not as open as you’d think about sex, but I seem like I am because tumblr is like my outlet for that kind of stuff. but I discovered how much I love talking about sexual topics in general so I have become a lot more open about it used to be. I also used to be very self conscious and shy about sex because I felt like nobody would accept it and would just judge me for being open about that topic. Something big that helped me was talking to a close friend that I know I can trust and that I know is an accepting person and slowly opening up to that person about sexual things. Opening up about it with a close friend is a really liberating feeling and it made me feel more and more comfortable opening up about it in general. Just remember being able to open up isnt going to happen overnight because overcoming your insecurities and self consciousness is a process and that’s okay. You can take your time and remember to only talk about things you are comfortable talking about. Also, remember being sexual is natural and completely normal and although not everyone is open about sex, there are so many people who do enjoy sex and you should never feel guilty about being a sexual person because it’s okay! Body confidence is a really hard thing to overcome and it will probably make this answer way longer so you can shoot me another ask about confidence and I can go more into it there! but this was just mainly about the sex stuff! This was still super long lmao I tried. I hope I helped you even a little bit. Remember sex is fun and sex feels good and being sexual is normal and to surround yourself with accepting people who let you open up about it! If they judge you, you don’t need people like that in your life anyway. 💌
It was unlikely for Lyra to ever appreciate the fact that she was an insomniac. It was disturbing, discomforting, and it weakened her to no end. But as the explosions hit and chaos started to arise, she found herself thankful that she was fully alert and in the right mindset. Immediately, she was on her feet, looking out of the window of her room as she was watched with a sinking heart as the once-invincible and mighty buildings of Fall City crumbled to the ground. The builds that hadn’t collapsed were on fire and where there weren’t fire, there were survivors rushing about in a frightened crowd towards the gates and eventually, towards safety. In the midst of all the fire, chaos, and terror, snow still fell upon them; white clumps that decorated the ruins and destruction and almost provided the scenery with a morbid sort of beauty.
But there was no time for nature appreciation when everything was falling apart.
Eyebrows knotted in concentration and lips pressed in a grim line, Lyra steadied herself as another bomb hit and shook the hours before reaching for her knives and strapping them on the belt of her jeans. She grabbed her gun and all the ammo she had in store before grabbing the duffel bag she usually carried during supply runs and throwing in whatever vital supplies that she had around the room; an abandoned roll of bandages, a half-used first-aid kit, two bottles of water, and a jacket beside the one she was wearing. Another relentless explosion shook the ground and caused tiny dust particles to dot her shoulders and the top of her head but she didn’t register it. Didn’t register anything beside the frantic beating of her heart and the adrenaline rush of danger and necessity.
Dexter. She needed to find Dexter. Before she even realize it, her legs were carrying her towards her housemates room and with shaking hands, she turned the knob and opened the door, only to find crumbled sheets and a cold, empty room. Muttering a panicked string of curses, Lyra rushed out of the room and searched the rest of the house but Dexter was nowhere to be found. Standing in the middle of their living room, Lyra took a deep breath and tried to will her anxiety away by telling herself over and over again that Dexter was alright; he was strong; he could survive this crisis with no trouble. But no matter what she thought or how hard she tried to convince herself, dread still sank like a pile of rocks down her guts. She had to find him. She had to see for herself that he was alright.
Necessity kicked in, though, and the practical, detached side of her ushered her to leave and look after herself. That was always the priority and it always would be. But she couldn’t even think about herself or contemplate selfishness when her thoughts were entirely consumed with concern and fear for the people she cared about. Charlotte. Shit. She had to check on Charlotte. Lori, too. And Isaac. And Juliet. And so many others that she grimaced hopelessly at the slim possibilities of all of them making it out alive. Could they? They had all survived so much in this place but this was the biggest hurdle yet. Could they really make it out of there? All of them?
Struggling the pessimism that crippled her once-sharp and calculative intellect, Lyra rushed out of the house and stood, momentarily flabbergasted, as she watched the destruction that come upon them. Looking around, she searched frantically with her eyes for traces and distinctive features of anyone she knew. She could see Charlotte with Corvo at her side as they rushed through the streets and she found herself breathing a little easier, knowing that her best friend was alright and that she was handling the situation as she ought to. Her panic lessened but didn’t fade as she searched and searched with her eyes but found no trace of Dexter. She could stand there and look around like a fool any longer, though. She needed to get to safety. She needed to survive. And she needed to keep reminding herself that that was what mattered most. She knew she was lying to herself, though. She couldn’t bring herself to care about her own survival when deep inside, she knew that she cared more about the survival and safety of those she cared about it. It was such a selfless mindset, especially with everything that was taking place around her, that it left her feeling confused and unsure. It wasn’t how she usually responded to emergency? Was this really how weak she had become?
Realizing that staying alive would give her a chance to have an identity crisis later on, Lyra rushed through the streets, taking familiar shortcuts through back-alleys and pursuing the route that would hopefully get her to the front gates with no trouble.
As she ran, she kept searching the trembling crowds and collapsing buildings for signs of anyone she recognized that might need help but she found none. Grimacing at the hopelessness the fact transpired, Lyra turned to head to the weapons shed but almost got stuck under one of the collapsing towers. It blocked her way and that was how she knew that she wouldn’t be able to reach the shed. Groaning in frustration, Lyra turned and followed her original route towards the gates. They were in her line of sight when she heard what sounded like muffled sobs and someone muttering to themselves. Along with familiar, low, throaty whines of a dog. Head snapping towards the source of the sound, her eyes fell on who she immediately recognized as Jakob and his dog, Jewel.
Before she could even contemplate abandoning him and saving herself as she probably would have many months ago, she ran towards him and crouched in front of him. He was in shock. His gaze was glazed and far away as he stared at a point in the distance and didn’t even register her presence. There were tear tracks on his cheeks and her was muttering low assurances to himself while clutching desperate at Jewel who tilted its head forward and licked Lyra’s cheek, whining as Jakob refused to let the animal go.
Lyra sighed sadly as she recalled witnessing Jake in this state one time, back when they had first met. Jakob had panicked over the loss of his brother, asking her if she had seen him or encountered him anywhere. It left Lyra feeling sick to the heart and stomach back then. And right now, it left her feeling even worse. She needed to snap him out of it and get them, and Jewel, out of the city before the whole place crumbled over their heads.
“Jake,” She said, reaching up run her fingers through his hair in what she believed to be a soothing manner. She could simply slap him or lift him over her shoulder and run for it but that wasn’t the right way to deal with Jake, especially with the shock he was in. “Jake, it’s alright. I’m here, okay?”
Blinking as if he had snapped out of a trance, Jakob started crying again as soon as his eyes met hers and he registered Lyra’s presence. He let go of Jewel, only to grab at Lyra’s forearms as fresh tears trickled down his cheeks and incomprehensible mutters and pleas left his mouth.
“I’m here. It’s going to be fine. We’re going to stay together and everything will be fine. Just like before, okay?” She assured him, running her fingers through his hair one last time before she grabbed his shoulders and prompted him to stand up. His knees were trembling and she doubted he could walk without stumbling in his current state of panic and anxiety but she couldn’t let that stand in their way. They needed to get to safety.
“C’mon, we need to go. It’s not safe here,” She said before turning to lead them towards the gates but Jakob grabbed her hand, shaking his head in protest. Squeezing his sweaty palm, Lyra forced a smile his way before she started ushering him, with Jewel at their trail, towards the gates. “I told you, it’s gonna be fine. Just stay close to me and as long as we’re together, nothing bad is going to happen.”
With those words, Lyra tightened her grip on Jakob’s hand, swallowed down her own anxiety, and started running towards the gates as they left behind the ruined sanctuary that was once Fall City and headed towards the forest and the deep unknown.
i know i said i left naruto behind but just fuckign listen to this radical concept:
shikamaru/darui
lengthly ramblings on various things and headcanons under the cut
okay to start off please take a gander at this side story in ninja storm three where shikamaru gets naruto to do his and darui’s job for them so he and darui can spend the day relaxing on the beach if that doesn’t convince you that this is a good ship I’VE GOT PLENTY OF OTHER REASONS WHY IT’S GREAT
i think about how the villages would interact post-war a lot and while i certainly don’t think the alliance would last i do think they’d at least attempt to have increased communication and for people like darui who serves as a kage guard and later as the raikage and shikamaru who takes over as jonin commander for konoha after the war that means a lot more diplomatic bullshit to hash out and a lot more visits to other villages to be made
shikamaru and darui know each other from the 3rd ninja war but only enough to know that they’ve got similar ideas about the importance of relaxation and that they get along very well so i’d imagine that they’d be more than willing to work together in a diplomatic sense and they’d cultivate a pretty good friendship from that working relationship and start spending time hanging out together outside of boring intravillage meetings when darui’s visiting konoha or when shikamaru comes to kumo
but of course as time goes on and work starts piling up for both of them they deal with that in different ways; shikamaru becomes a fucking miserable workaholic (thank u hiden novels for canonizing my longtime shikamaru headcanon) and darui starts leaving diplomatic bullshit to other kumo shinobi so he can focus his energy on the issues facing his village specifically and they don’t see each other as much
when darui actually visits konoha he sets aside time from kage guard duties to drag shikamaru away from his desk because ‘you’re wound way too damn tight, what happened to taking time to relax?’ and basically darui encourages shikamaru to ignore his job but that is really fuckin good for shikamaru’s mental health tbh. darui is a good friend and shikamaru values their friendship very highly
i like the idea of them sending letters to each other a lot? especially after darui becomes raikage it’s best for them to stay in contact for purposes of inter-village cooperation but also they just like each other as people. they like talking about little things like boring village drama and whatnot and taking naps in the sun together when they can. gay
look at all that shit i’ve written and i haven’t even gotten to the romantic parts of this yet jesus fuckin christ. i am either too strong or way too weak
anyway. they’re definitely the kind of couple where there’s no big romantic confession on either part or any awkward ‘oh no what if he doesn’t like me back’ tension they have a good thing going and at some point it becomes clear that that thing involves a more than a fair bit of romantic attraction but it doesn’t really matter if they act on those feelings or not because they like being friends even if they’re not a couple
them becoming an official couple is essentially just darui asking shikamaru ‘are we on a date right now?’ while they’re watching clouds together and shikamaru just shrugs and tells him ‘yeah, probably’ and that’s it. they’re dating
there’s very little tension in their relationship for a long time because they’re happy just exchanging letters and seeing each other whenever one of them visits the other’s village because that’s easy and fine but there definitely comes a point when they start missing each other a lot more than they used to and when they have to talk about the fact that them being basically tied to these separate villages by their respective responsibilities (and in shikamaru’s case clan head duties) is causing a pretty big problem for their relationship
and they like each other! a LOT! but they are both intensely loyal people and neither of them are the type to uproot their entire life for the sake of a boy no matter how nice and cute that boy might be
for a while it’s just them postponing the conversation and individually working towards a stronger alliance between their villages because hey that helps them out politically and gives them more chances to see each other
shikamaru a very smart and very motivated dude when he wants to be though and once naruto and sasuke become kages he jumps on that chance and uses his close personal relationship with naruto to work out an arrangement where he can divide his time between kumo and konoha
more time with the boyfriend and he gets to foist his own work off on some other poor shinobi half the time. win win situation
that’s the my extensive headcanon for how their relationship develops now here have some smaller headcanons about them as a couple
shikamaru uses darui’s bigass sword to hack down the weeds in his garden at least twice
the first time darui meets one of shikamaru’s deer he just gestures at it and asks shikamaru ‘so can you like ride them or what?’ shikamaru then tells him about how he used to ride on the backs of the family deer as a kid but now he’s too old to do that. darui’s slightly disappointed
SHIKAMARU TAKING DARUI TO THE NARA FOREST? private area nara clan members only shikamaru bringing darui into there means a LOT and speaks volumes about how he feels about this guy and how committed he is to him but darui misses out on that context until shikamaru explains it to him a few days later (probably when darui asks if he can bring omoi and karui around to see the deer and the forest because lbr it’s a fuckin cool place)
wearin flak jackets from each other’s villages. like a cute boyfriend clothing swap but not exactly
shikamaru dating the raikage does wonders for konoha’s relationship with kumo but also do u have any idea how many times he has to deal with naruto whining to him ‘shikamaaaaarrruuu kumo won’t agree to the terms for our treaty tell your boyfriend to stop being a jerk’ TOO MANY TIMES. WAY TOO MANY
darui gets the same thing from karui a lot whenever there are minor disagreements with konoha shinobi
shikamaru meeting killer bee while he’s in kumo jesus christ can you fucking imagine
killer bee and shikamaru get along shockingly well and darui theorizes that shikamaru just has some kind of inborn gift for dealing with rowdy jinchuuriki
shikamaru are darui are the worst morning people holy fck. sleeping in the same bed and cuddling is nice but the mornings are ass hell. they’re both half dead and neither of them can be counted on to wake the other up in the morning ever they both sleep through half the day until one of the kumo shinobi comes to grab the raikage and drag him to a meeting
darui arm wrestling chouji to prove that he’s worthy of dating chouji’s best friend (chouji wins but it’s the thought that counts)
i’m sorry i can’t stop thinking about darui’s biceps now oh mygod. lay me down 2 rest. how does shikamaru live with someone that hot without just ascending to another plane of existence every time he lays eyes on darui’s pecs
