Better in the Morning || [Marou]

Toulouse was heavy when he pushed the door to the manor open. For a moment, he didn’t announce himself, he just stood in the center of the foyer. It was quiet and calm, nothing had changed since the last time he had been here. His mother was clearly too busy to change over the décor to autumn. So, it was the same since he had moved out. As if he never had.
He didn’t know how that felt. There was this hollow ache in his chest that he didn’t understand. After all, he loved the Acheron cottage. There were parts that were not his favourite and that was an adjustment, but it was the kind of busy, noisy that he thought he might have always craved and never been allowed in his own childhood.
Maybe that emptiness was just a reflection of the house itself.
Sighing, Lou crossed in through the kitchen, where Nounou was busy making tea. “Ach, Monsieur Toulouse, you startled me.”
“Apologies, Nounou.”
Nounou just pat his cheek with a little smile. “It is good to see you.”
He leaned in to kiss her own cheek. “And you.”
Moving through the dining room, he crossed into the living room, moving just as silently. Marie was curled up on the couch, facing away from him, working on something on her laptop. She looked perfect and pretty as a picture and Lou smiled to himself. He had missed her.
Creeping up behind her, he dropped a kiss on the side of her head. “What are you working on, ma petite? Do not concentrate so hard, it will give you wrinkles.”
