our little tide pod😍
(This is still a draft please don't judge to hard.)
Hi hello its ghoulish-fiction I have come to deliver the next part of Insect's day. You will recall that we last saw him return indoors from Primo's garden with a sled full of apples. I hope you like this next bit.
The second thing on Insect's agenda: baking. Insect was growing quite tired when he finally reached his destination. He dropped the rope of the sled to paw at the door before him and shout his own name.
"Oh he's here. Would you let him in?"
Insect hears Dewdrop's muffled voice from beyond the front door, and he hears heavy foot steps approach. He can't help the way his tail slaps the welcome mat below him with such force his whole body is wiggling with excitement.
The door swings open and there stands Aether beaming down at Insect.
"Hey little man! So glad your here! Want me to get those for you?" He asks, pointing to the sled full of apples.
"Help!"
"Okay, you got it."
Aether gathers up the sled and the bag and carries them in, kicking the door shut behind as he goes, because Insect has already run into the apartment and lept up onto a bar stool next to the kitchen island. Dewdrop is standing there kneeding a large ball of dough. His hair is up in a loose bun on top of his head and there's flour up to his elbows.
"Hey Insect. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. Do you wanna stick around while we work or do you have somewhere to be?"
"Help? Insect help?"
"You wanna help bake?" Dewdrop asks with a smile.
Insect nods so enthusiastically and his tail wags so quickly he nearly knocks himself off the stool.
"Calm down! You can help. Go wash your paws and let me know when you're done so I can bring you back over here without your paws touching the floor."
Insect does as he is instructed. As he washes up Aether is unloading the apples next to the sink to be washed next.
"You sure did bring a lot. Idk if we are going to need all this."
"I can make something else with the extra. What do you think Insect?"
"Mmrp!"
"Great. Any preferences?"
Insect thinks hard as he draws his paws on the towel that Aether offers him and suddenly his eye light up.
"Help! Help!" Insect shouts as he points to the fridge with his tail.
"You need help getting in the fridge? Idk what you need in there but okay."
Aether scoops up Insect in one arm and carries him to the fridge. He opens it allowing Insect to scan its contents. Once he spots what he wants he snatches it off the self, almost falling out of Aether's grasp as he does, but Aether is quick to catch him with his free hand. Insect is then scrambling to look over Aether's shoulder to get Dew's attention again.
"Mreeeep!" He shouts, making Dew jump.
"Yes wha- butter? I don't need any more butter, bud."
Insect shakes his head. He points at the apples on the counter, and then at the butter. He repeats this action several times. Apples. Butter. Apples. Butter. Dew stares on, brows knit in confusion.
"Oh!" Dew says after a long moment, "Apple butter! Sure I can make you some apple butter."
"Yummy!"
Insect shoves the butter into Aether's face, which Aethet takes and places back in the fridge before returning Insect to the counter.
Insect looks quizzically at Dewdrop. He watches carefully to see how he kneeds and folds the dough, his claws puncturing the squishy surface, and add more flour as needed.
Once he is satisfied he knows what he's doing insect hops onto the counter and wiggles himself in between Dewdrop and the dough and starts to kneed as well, purring loud enough to fill the kitchen.
"You got it little man?" Dewdrop says as he steps away. "Its about done. I'll wash the apples while you finish up."
As Insect kneeds, Dewdrop washes and Aether peels and slices. Before they know if they are nearly done with prep.
"Okay, I'll take over again. You've done great."
Dewdrop begins rolling out the dough and forming the crust as Insect washes up.
Aether and Insect end up watching Dewdrop as he works, Aether with a love struck gaze and Insect with a fascinated one. They shared a spare apple as they watched Dewdrop fill the crust with the filling he spiced to perfection, Aether would take a bite and then hold the apple up to Insect who would take a bite next.
Dewdrop presented the uncooked pie with its perfectly crimped edges to the two onlookers and said with a smile, "There! First one ready for the oven. Oh fuck. I forgot to light it."
"Help!" Insect shouts and then jumps to the floor. He scurred over to the wood burning stove against the wall, left over from the days before the Abbey had electricity or even gas, and flung open the door. He firmly planted his feet, wiggled a bit, held his breath for a moment and then... *FWOOSH!*
Fire shot from Insect's mouth and into the oven. The logs ignited and burned brightly. Insect turned to beam ever so proudly up at Dewdrop.
"Thanks little man!" Dewdrop cheered.
"Fuck!" Aether gasps, "I forget you can do that..."
"How could you?" Dewdrop asks, "Its cool as hell!"
"Cool!" Insect says.
"Hell yeah little man!" Dewdrop exlaims. He bends down to fist bump Insect, who bumps his paw against Dewdrop's knuckles.
"Well its gonna take a while for the oven to heat up. Do you have any other plans today?" Aether asks as he glances at the clock, "Its nearly noon."
Insect perks up, his wide eyes somehow going wider. Then a look of concern paints his face. His tail flicks to and fro as he looks between the oven and the door.
"If you have places to be we can bring the pie to you and Papa later."
Insect whines and looks at the fridge.
"Oh, and the apple butter."
Insect perks up then and nods happily.
He will get his treats and be on time for his next engagement, too. He trots to the door and waits for Aether to open it. He chirps goodbye to his friends as he slips out the door.
