A/N: Holy heck this one was long! This is a song fic! The song is called Shut up and Dance with me by Walk The Moon. I don’t own the song. ENJOY!
Oh don't you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you're holding back
She said shut up and dance with me
This woman is my destiny
She said oh oh oh
Shut up and dance with me
What the heck were you thinking? When king Thranduil – Well one of his messengers- had come and asked you if you would teach his son to dance you said ‘sure I’d love to! What an honour it is to be asked such a thing!”
Now you weren’t so sure. Sure you were the best dancer in The Woodland Realm for your age but still for someone as lowly as you to be teaching a prince? A handsome one at that too. Though you would have to try and keep those thoughts out of your head whilst he was around. Oh god why did you get yourself into these situations? Oh right because the King was freakin terrifying that’s why, No one said no to him. Oh well no looking back now.
We were victims of the night
The chemical, physical, kryptonite
Helpless to the bass and the fading light
Oh we were bound to get together
Bound to get together
You walked towards the hall you had been allowed to use for these lessons. Looking around the palace was amazing. Nature surrounding you everywhere, almost as if it had been grown to house a magnificent palace. Were it not for the Guard escorting you you’d surely get lost.
The hall was magnificent. You’d never had such space to dance in before. Even the outdoor festivals had smaller space. In here you’d be free to leap and bound. Though you were sure there wouldn’t be any dancing of that sort needed for the prince. You’d obviously been given a list of what to teach Legolas. That was when the door opened again.
“I assume you’re (y/n)? Shall we get started?” King Thranduil commanded your attention easily. No wonder he was king.
“Of course My King. Is there anything you’d like me to teach first?” you replied taking a neat little curtsy.
“As long as he knows all the dances on your list I care not what order he learns them in.” You nod.
“Of course. Where is my student may I ask?” The king turned sharply as if to look for his son. Though he brushed it off by walking back through the doors.
“Oh I’m sure he’ll be along shortly.” With that the king seemed to glide away. You were almost certain that his son had run off the first chance he got.
She took my arm
I don't know how it happened
We took the floor and she said
Oh don't you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you're holding back
She said shut up and dance with me
Eventually the prince turned up. Looking very glum. Man this was going to be hard if he didn’t even want to be here.
“Hello my lord. Shall we get started.” He merely nodded. You started by stretching with him. Then took his arm.
“The first dance I’m going to show you is the dance of falling leaves. Since that is the next festival you should probably start with that one.” Again he nodded. You took him through the first few movements. Though he couldn’t grasp them very well.
“Keep your eyes on my feet, see how they cross over?” He tried again and fell on his butt. You couldn’t help but giggle. As he looked at you, you immediately stopped.
“I’m sorry I will control myself My Lord.” You looked down embarrassed to be caught laughing at a prince.
“Please call me Legolas. You don’t have to worry. I must look silly to you.” You shook your head.
“Not at all. You reminded me of when my mother was teaching me to dance. I was the same as you now.” He smiled at that.
“Glad to know you weren’t just born like this. Let me see you do the whole dance. You’re clearly holding back for my sake. Let’s see what I have to live up to.” You froze for a second. Suddenly embarrassed to perform anything.
This woman is my destiny
She said oh oh oh
Shut up and dance with me
“If you insist.” You took up position and started. One foot crossing over the other as you moved across the floor and round and round. Dancing always put you in a good mood. You suddenly forgot all about your spectator and danced to the silent music in your head. Eventually you came to an end. Suddenly snapping out of your own little world you look over at the prince.
“You are very graceful.” You smile and tuck a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Thank you. Maybe for our next lesson we should have some music?” Legolas seemed to smile at the prospect of this.
“That would be helpful. I’ll mention it to my farther.”

Turns out the next lesson would be the next day. Thranduil had sent a messenger saying that he wanted you teaching his son every day until all the dances were learned. So here you were again. A shorter dress this time so you could more accurately show your footwork. Or so you told yourself, at least you were still modest.
“(y/n) You’re here.” Legolas greeted as you walked through the doors.
“Well someone had changed their tune since yesterday.” You grinned teasing the prince for running away yesterday.
“Well I’m here now that’s what matters.” You nodded.
“Indeed. Shall we go over what we did yesterday?” The prince nods
“Okay. Show me what you remember.” Legolas tries the first few steps. He isn’t too bad.
“Good. You’ve at least retained what the steps were. Now onto the spins.” You show him first the whole sequence. Then break it down and have him follow after you. You keep going over all the steps until he’s learned them all. Though his movements are still clunky and mechanical.
“Excellent! You now know all the steps! You ready to try it to music?” He seems a bit reluctant. You just smile.
“I think so.” Your smile gets bigger.
“Excellent!” You look over to the violinist who has seemed bored ever since you first entered and nod. She nods back and gets ready.

As Legolas starts off he seems off beat, but as he keeps going he gets much better. He finds his rhythm half way through and though it still needs work you’re confident he’ll get there. He stops in front of you as the song finishes.
“How was that?” He asks seeming confident.
“The best so far. We will have to work on your finesse but with practice I’m sure you’ll get there. This time I want you to dance with me. I want you to keep your eyes on me and not look back at your feet as you have been doing. Think you can do that?” He shrugs.
“Guess we will find out. Miss if you please? 1 2 3…”

“That’s not fair you’re holding back!” Legolas points out.
“Shhhh! Dance with me! You’re dancing behind me! When it comes to the festival everyone dances round through the trees. You’ll have to keep an eye on the person in front to see where you’re going.” He seems to relax a bit after that. You began to see why they called it the dance of falling leaves. You felt as if you and the prince were cascading to the ground only to be tossed by the wind.
Oh, c'mon girl
Deep in her eyes
I think I see the future
I realize this is my last chance
You found that after the second lesson it became much easier to teach Legolas. Weeks passed and you had started another dance whilst he perfected this one. Then another and another. Though you left out the ones for couples. You didn’t know if you’d be able to control yourself for those. It was bad enough being smitten with the prince as it was. Being held by him might just have been too much for you. The festival of falling leaves was drawing near though. How you wished he would ask you. Though you knew he would never ask someone so common to an event such as this. Or any event really.
“(y/n)!” Legolas greeted you the week before the dance.
“Legolas. Always a pleasure to see you. Is there anything you wish to practice?” He shook his head. Strange, he usually wanted help with certain steps or to show me how he’s been practicing. He’s pretty smug when he wants to be.
“I wanted to ask if we could learn a couples dance this week.” You give a squeak in surprise and your cheeks tinge pink.
“Um… Sure I…I mean if that’s what you want. We can start with a waltz. That’s the most common and you’ll be able to dance it pretty much anywhere as you only need one up beat and two down beats.” He nods

“I’ll teach you to lead since you’re a prince. Anyone you wish to dance with will expect to follow you.” You begin showing him the steps though unlike most every other time he seems to be getting it straight away.
“You seem to know these steps already.” You say stopping.
“Before my mother passed she used to love to dance. Farther was always very busy so sometimes I would dance with her. Though that was a long time ago we always used to dance like this.” Legolas looks thoughtful. You never would have guessed he danced with his mother.
“She taught you well. You seem to know the steps already. We can work on your finesse.” He nods and you take up your position with him showing him how to be graceful. You have found comparing to fighting seems to work best.

Shut up and dance
Saturday comes very fast. Too fast in your opinion. It’s time for Legolas’ last lesson before the festival tomorrow. You find today you’ve arrived before Legolas. Uncommon since it hasn’t happened since your first lesson. The doors open not long after you’ve arrived though.
“Legolas! I want to go through all the dances we’ve done these past weeks.” He nods. You both go through the dances you’ve learned. Though you try to hold back. You really want to watch Legolas show off all you’ve taught him. It finally comes to the waltz.
“(y/n) Stop holding back. I want to see you dance. All this time you’ve been watching me. Now it’s my turn.” You look up sheepish. Though you’re only a tad smaller than him it still feels as if he towers over you. The music begins. You start to dance.
Don't you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you're holding back

You find dancing with Legolas instead of beside him is very easy. You once again find yourself lost in the dance. Each move coming fluidly to you. All too soon the music has ended. Though you’re reluctant to let go. When you try Legolas tightens his grip.
“(y/n) I wanted to ask if you’d go to the ball with me.” Your heart leaps. The words you wished to hear him say are actually coming out of his mouth. Oh god. Say something!
“Of course I will. There’s no one else I’d rather go with.” You couldn’t wait to show Legolas off. This was going to be the best dance yet.
