Being transgender has nothing to do with Sexuality. Being part of the "LGBT" community implies that we are homosexual or bisexual but, realistically, our sexual orientation is usually the last thing on our minds right now. We are more concerned about surviving.
Quite often we are diminished by the LGB community and its allies, for instance, trans women are made to feel like less of a woman by drag queens who dress as women for entertainment purposes only.
Tell me why I should support the LGB community when it does not stand for anything that I believe in. You have a Pride Parade, you want and, in many parts of the world, have achieved equal rights for yourself, yet you are a bunch of catty and jealous "folk" when we trans folk just want to be recognised for who we are. I am not proud of being transgender, I just am.
Just Me, Us.... Trans folk just want to be recognised as an unique individual yet we are still the target of bullying, injustice and prejudice when we just want to be recognised as valid individuals.
The issues of transgender men and women are often brushed to the side as the preoccupations of an overly sensitive group of people. People regardless of their sexual orientation often justify their intolerance of the trans community while expressing support for same-sex rights.
So you will have to excuse me when I say:
We are better off being part of our own separate community. We've got this and everyone else had better stay out of our way. We don't need the LGB community as they have never championed our causes And Never Will.
