Mary Gaitskill's latest novella would explore the ambiguities of the #metoo movement, if indeed there were any such things, or there was a need to examine them with such haste. Written from the perspective of a tasteless Don Giovanni working in publishing, and his Leporello - a mature woman, who mostly enables and sometimes questions his behavior, the story works itself up to the perpetrator's downfall - something that happens much more in fiction, than in real life. While Don Giovanni gets dragged down to the underworld, most of even the high-profile perpetrators are still walk, create and abuse freely. It's superb writing, that is but used for a guidebook for creepy, inappropriate and abusive men about how to speak for themselves. Counterproductive at least. #bookstagram #bookseller #bookish #thisispleasure #marygaitskill https://www.instagram.com/p/B43C7rTBi31/?igshid=1hf08jezu427o
