Finding a time for myself was hard once I became 🦋selfless. I had to go through a season of complete paralysis, not knowing if it was ok for me to put my 👦🏼son in the gym childcare to 💪🏽weight train. Or if I was allowed to insist he follow me on a run instead of taking him to go scootering at a park where I have to stand by, unmoving, to protect him from the riff-raff. 🙏🏽But I had to remember the only one I answer to is God. That's it. Not you, not my mother, not my older children who want a say in my life, not my employer, nor my spiritual mentors. ONLY GOD! Psalm 91:1-2 📖 🦋God used Day 39 of @irisministries Heidi and Roland Baker's book "Reckless Devotion" to remind me why I came to #reddingca in the first place---to help this community as a foreigner with no motivation but unconditional love. God brought me and #JasperMatthias here. Your loud eye roll will not convince me otherwise. 🌹To everyone reading this- I am blessed to have a multitude of pastors and leaders and broken, beautiful friends surrounding me here. It's a vortex for us spirit-filled or broken. This town doesn't seem to have much wiggle room in between those two places. Saturday, we came together as a Redding community to commemorate the 55th year anniversary of the Civil Rights Act as well to bring awareness to the 400 year anniversary since slavery first started in this country through speeches, encouragements, and empowering statements to keep going, keep building, keep using our voices for change. So many marginalized people groups were represented but with all one heart beat: human flourishing. I felt so honored to be asked to bring creativity to this event. I’m grateful for @jordanblack for singing, @shayna.acosta for choreographing an amazing piece to Maya Angelou’s words, and BSSM students and local citizens for their lively recitation of a favorite Langston Hughes poem. I also got to bring a little spoken word poetry through a piece entitled, “400 Year Old Hope Song.” Hope is the force we need to forge ahead and blaze new trails that lead us into each other’s arms. So humbled to be in this season of life now, in this beloved city, watching God unfold a beautiful plan for His beloved children.
