Let’s check out a couple of demos by a Taichung band called Sentimental Pool. =D
The YT channel taiwanphotog featured them yesterday, and that’s where I got most of the band info. (That is Thomas Koenig’s channel, and he is a great resource for bands in the south of TW.)
They formed in 2019, and the members are: 黃曼倪 (Mani Huang)-Voc/Gtr/Songwriter, 科竣 (Jim)-Gtr, 梅根 (Megan Lee)-Bass, 黃政翔-Drums.
Links: Instagram, YouTube, StreetVoice (4 demos as of 9-2022)
Bonus: clip from taiwanphotog is a live version of the same song (終究 In The End) from their set at Rocks (岩石音樂) in Kaohsiung last weekend.:
五五身 FiftyBodyFifty for the win! =D
(Scott Lin)-Bass/Voc
This song is on their 2019 ep (A Brief History of Emptiness), with lyrics by C.M. Hsiao, music by the band. (full a/v credits at YT)
More links: StreetVoice, Spotify, YouTube, Instagram
This live clip is from the end of February at 搖旗吶喊 CISHAN ROCK fest, and it’s a song on their 2016 debut full-length album, (Yet Again, My Romantic Masculinity):
By the way, that voice-over towards the end of the song is also on the album; notice how the kids know the words by heart, as if they were lyrics. I’d be interested to know what she is talking about, if anyone wants to help us out?
As I mentioned in the previous post, Super Obvious bassist had departed from the band in November of 2018; this clip from Rocks in Kaohsiung on Nov 24, 2018 was probably one of their first gigs as a 3-piece. =D
Here is their most recent song posted to YT on September 29, 2019; I don’t know if it is a demo, but anyway, it’s not listed on Spotify or KKBOX. Perhaps they just wanted the fans to hear the newest material before their tour last fall. Beautiful ballad-rock, and I look forward to an official release:
Brand new MV from Paiwan singer-songwriter 戴曉君 Tai Siao-Chun aka Sauljaljui. =D
Credited on the recording are 曾仁義 Nine G (Tseng Jen-yi)-gtr/producer, 葉俊麟 Chunlin Yeh Jiro-Yeh-bass and 吳政君 Alex Wu (Wu Cheng Chun)-percussion.
I recommend going back to YT to read the description of the song, and to see the lyrics translated to English/Chinese.
Let’s hear some more of that beautiful voice -- taiwanphotog (aka Thomas Koenig) just posted this performance from 搖旗吶喊 Cishan Rock on 2/29/2020:
taiwanphotog‘s description is very helpful as always, so check it out to become more familiar with Sauljaljui.
By the way, Thomas wasn’t sure who the guitarist was, but I think he looks like 曾仁義 Nine G, so that is my guess. =D
Thomas Koenig aka taiwanphotog moving all around the stage to bring you 大象體操 Elephant Gym from their midnight set at Rocks during WE ARE SOUTH 南迴樂 festival this past weekend.
Watch to the very end for KT 張凱婷’s English goodbye to the crowd and for some great still photos from Thomas. Nice shots at very close range! =D
Let’s check out a young metal/screamo band from Kaohsiung, this is 月下 Under The Moon =D
坦克-Voc, 阿品-Gtr, 阿勛-Gtr, 學長-Bass, 骨頭-Drums (They used to have a 6th member on keyboard also? In some promo photos, there are 6 guys.)
They have 2 demos at StreetVoice, incl. the song above. (1 song in Mandarin)
taiwanphotog YT channel has one more clip from this event, and that’s where I got the names of the band members.
Let’s check out Kaohsiung indie band The Phonograph
I really like that verse melody, it’s cute & quirky. =D
More links: StreetVoice, Sophia Instagram, Sophia YouTube, Sophia StreetVoice. Sophia is also very involved with a music store in Kaohsiung: 音樂夢響佳 流行樂館 Dreamsmusic. I don’t know if she’s an owner, but she performs, gives lessons, and manages(?).
