Original Nintendo World Champion Thor Aackerlund maxing out Tetris at 999,999 points and reaching the untouchable level 30. This video can be seen at the end of Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters, a documentary that covers the World Tetris Championships held in 2010.
What I love about this video is how old school it is. No fancy capture cards, an old CRT television set and an awkward camera angle that looks like something lifted from a dirty home movie, accompanied by white noise. It’s not pretty, it’s not fancy, but It’s concrete proof of something people thought was just a gaming urban legend. Thor is the man.
The best part of this video, aside from Thor accomplishing the feat is the guy that starts knocking at the door at 7:43. Could you imagine dedicating your entire focus and concentration to this one thing to have something as simple as an annoying knock at the door throw you off? Thor still reaches his goal and we can only hope that afterwards he strangled whoever was at the door.
