hey! first of all: i hope you are doing well. second: i'm sorry i'm late for the "thoughts on" post but what do you think is the relationship between alice and charlotte?

I think charlotte is most likely baffled by alice. like, from her perspective....what the fuck. who IS this

think about it. charlotte knew jasper in the context of "terrifying emotionless War Machine who has no regard for life and was ready to kill me without batting an eye." then she knew him in the context of "boyfriend's super depressed bestie who constantly third-wheels us and doesn't know what to do with himself if he's not committing violence in someone else's name and also has this weird handicap about eating"

and then, however many years later, she meets him again in the context of "Wife Guy who lives in a house with a goddamn picket fence, eats a bizarre moralistic granola diet, and lets his 4'10" girlfriend pick out his shoes" like what the actual fuck.

to charlotte, who has no problem murdering humans for brunch but is otherwise a pleasant, pacifistic, ~Normal~ vampire, alice must seem so bizarre. she has this WAY overpowered gift, is probably tied for the most powerful vampire of the last millennium, and she uses it to......go shopping. she looked at a depressed, feral war criminal and went "is this a husband??" she doesn't know who she is or where she came from. she abstains from eating normal food because...fate told her to?

but she's super friendly and easy to get along with, and must have been so excited to meet charlotte and peter! so it's not that she's deeply weird in an off-putting way, just deeply weird in a neutral way.

I think, to peter and charlotte, alice and jasper are the equivalent of "those cousins/in-laws/college friends who got sober and joined a hippie commune but they're so nice and they make the BEST guacamole and we'd probably still die for them." "their lifestyle is deeply eccentric and we worry about them sometimes, but they're family."

thoughts on eleanor

Eleanor, I think, is a good character. She is a REALLY, REALLY good example of not only how white women can perpetuate oppression, but also a REALLY, REALLY good example of how that works against your own interests even as you fight to uphold it.

Eleanor is put in power at a very young age as a woman in a world that is run by men and she deals with all of that and always questioning if her father ever loved her. Often ruminates what it would be like as a man. She, like many of the other characters, is tired. Max, in her own words, is her, but Max isn’t white and Max does not come from wealth. Max was looking in the window into what was Eleanor’s world. Now she sits in the chair and she is Not the same as Eleanor because Eleanor, at the end of the day, after all her complexities and issues and suffering, still owns slaves. She still participates in that.

And people get upset with her death, which you know, fair, but her story really couldn’t end any other way. She is the very real demonstration that no matter how you, as a white woman, are upheld by white men, they still very much can hurt and kill you. That to try and work with that, no matter what sense of peace and civility so to speak you think you will achieve, will always end up in someone being on their knees to make you feel tall. She is, effectively, the definition of a #girlboss, and an example of how they don’t change the system, they adapt to work within that system, and that system still fucks them over because she is a woman and the type of woman she was will never fit into mainstream society.

When Madi said “my father didn’t just mistrust flint, he didn’t trust any of you”, that’s SUCH a poignant and succinct summation of Eleanor. Who says “all these men, too many goddamn men” when she owned a man. Each main character in their own way represents each faction of power in Nassau and the ones who die or are sent away are the methods and lifestyles that aren’t viable under England’s power and she’s one of them. Her Nassau isn’t acceptable in the eyes of England and Rogers could say he loved her all he wanted, she was not a socially acceptable wife of a governor and he knew that and everyone else knew it.

So I think she’s a good character and her arc makes sense but I also....don’t like her lol. I think you’re supposed to feel sorry for her in some ways, but in others it’s like girl? Wake up and look at yourself. Your search for peace relies on the subjugation of others to make you comfortable. It’s why she’s caught between those two worlds. England is never going to give her the freedom she wants and the way she operated within the pirate world relied on slavery and political power over others.

Those are my simplified thoughts, because I think you could write entire essays on each character in this show.

Thoughts on space?

Thank you for the ask sweetie!! This is a lovely one❤

I have always adored space (astronomy & space travel included). Space is full of uncertainties and uniqueness, yet it is so terrifyingly beautiful. I remember when I was a kid, I had always wanted to be a cosmonaut so that I could explore deep space & fulfill my greatest desires🤩

Nevertheless, Space is somewhere that I yearn to visit at least once in my life, despite its dangerousness & unknowness. If I get any opportunites to study more of Space/deep Space, I will definitely do it😙
