His closed fist hovers an inch or two away from the closed door, frozen in place by nothing else other than his own fears. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and wills himself to knock. But nothing. He remains frozen in place for a minute or two longer before exhaling the breath and backing away from the door. A thought crosses his mind. The thought that maybe he could catch Horus another day. Talk to him another day. Explain himself another day.
As if he hadn’t already shown up at the university with the intent to talk with the headmaster a handful of times, only to retreat like a dog with his tail between his legs when his courage failed him. A string of excuses fueling his cowardice as he made his escape. Horus didn’t want to see him. Horus was probably busy. Horus probably hates him. Probably. If he did, he could hardly blame the other god. Especially with how he just disappeared. And if Horus didn’t hate him, that was a pleasant surprise. Regardless, the moon god hated himself to make up for the other’s absence of malice.
Mani sighs and takes a step toward the door once more. He was a coward. A complete and utter coward. The first thing he’d been taught when he came into existence was how to run and for the longest time, that was all he knew how to do. But it was something he wanted to change. Something that he needed to change, and he needed to start somewhere. Maybe here was a good place to start.
It takes every fiber of his being to close the distance between himself and the door and actually knock this time. A rush of adrenaline rushing through him when his knuckles rap against the hardwood gently. The moon god feels accomplished for a moment, but that moment is so short lived. When the door opens, an array of emotions cross his face. Happiness, relief, shame, and fear. The fear lingers longer than the rest, but he wills himself to speak. “Do you have some time to talk?” he asks simply, softly, a gentle smile displayed on his face in hopes of masking his other emotions.
