plot twist: panic
@boundlesshart
It was comforting, at least, to see that nobles did the same song and dance everywhere. A lot of preening, a lot of posturing, and very few things of actual importance happening.
Still, things in the Alliance do have their own kind of flair. The roundtable discussion does come with the premise of equality between everyone and their opinions. Sylvain isn’t sure how much of that is actually in practice versus just being scratched out on paper, but it’s a nice thought all the same.
Sylvain lounges comfortably in his seat, arms crossed behind his head. Probably not a great impression, based on the looks by some less familiar with him that are shot his way, but he figured it was fine. From what he’d been told, this sounded like it was more for tradition then anything. Same shtick every year. Peace of cake.
So when Noble Duke Something or Other of Sylvain Had Missed It stood up and announced that the topic this year was separating from the kingdom... Sylvain hadn’t quite managed to catch his expression dropping from surprise.
He quickly plastered the calm smile back on. Fine, that was fine. There was enough quiet whispering tearing around the table that he was sure no one would think anything of him.
While the introduction continued in a rattling, Put-You-To-Sleep tone of voice, Sylvain leaned over to Claude, sitting in the seat next to him. “Hey. Claude, buddy. Quick question; what do you mean it’s not about the war with Almyra this year?”
