Based on this plot
The last thing Emir had expected when he got off the plane in Germany was that his girlfriend, Ramona, would be so quick to reply. Typically, he was one to text her ‘mission’s done, headed to [whatever city the soldier was getting buried in] and see you by [whatever date he was getting in down]’ but this trip had been harder. He’d found the soldier alive, but just barely, and it turned out it was a bait. As he’d called for backup, a bomb was detonated that had left him buried in rubble. He’d made it out but some of his brothers hadn’t and, per his job, he had to collect what was left of them. It had been a longer mission, more personal, and both emotionally and physically taxing. So, he was given a weekly assignment to health exams, told to rest, and given a little longer promise of leave than typical.
He wasn’t sure how to tell Ramona what he’d been through. Her caring nature always made him worry about what would happen if she knew the ghosts and danger that came with his job in all its gruesome detail. Still, there she was, all the lights warm and welcoming on in his apartment, the smell of her perfume and food in the air. “Ro? Aşkım, what are you doing here?” His tired eyes were already glimmering with the threat of tears as he dropped his bag heavily to the ground, his camo uniform looking out of place in the apartment. He wondered if the incident made the news and if she’d assumed it was him. The deaths didn’t always make mainstream news, but the ones that had were soldiers he’d collected, stood at their funerals, and carried in his memory.
Emir had forgotten how tired he was or how much his body ached, the sight of this wholly caring person there for him made him fall to his knees. He’d always been a bit of a loner and maybe he could have coped alone. Now that he didn’t have to, his body folded in on itself, ready to hold her and to sleep. He looked up at her when she stood in front of him an rested his dark locks on her leg. “I didn’t want you to see me like this.”
