It was several years into the apocalypse, and you were just about lucky enough to find another human. A year into this huge mess, it was considered almost rare to find a human that wouldn’t kill you on the spot. God, those were some good times. Unlike now, there were no other humans to pair up with. It was rare to find supplies on your own as most places had been ransacked or were zombie infested. In all honesty, it was bullshit.
Eren had been more than lucky when he came across Marco over a year ago. Sure they weren’t friends right on the spot, but they didn’t want to blow the others brains out either, and over time, the longer they stayed paired together, the closer they grew. When they had passed over that line of friendship, Eren could remember it like it was yesterday.
The two had been sitting up on the branches inside of a large weeping willow tree. It’d been a long day of travelling, and the tree would be a temporary source of shelter while the two rested for the night. With lack of blankets, the two men had huddled up together and used each other’s body heat to stay warm. They had talked the night away, and somehow found themselves falling silent in the later hours, simply staring at each other before kissing for the first time.
Now Marco and Eren were closer than ever expected, and boyfriends no less. They had stayed inside of a small working RV for the past month, using it to drive small distances at a time to save the gas inside of the tank. Now stationed on the outskirts of Atlanta, it’d been Eren’s plan from the start of the apocalypse to come to Georgia, to maybe check in on the CDC and to find out if there was any sort of word of a cure in the develop.
Outside, and a block away from the RV Marco was resting up in, Eren was double checking the area that it was clear of any zombies and humans. Looks good so far. He walked a bit farther to round a block and found a zombie lay across a family home’s lawn. For a split moment, he stood frozen but found that his eyes were drifting towards the shining piece of gold on the undead’s finger. He was married. Probably the owner of the house too, but he wouldn’t pester too long in trying to find out.
Carefully moving over, Eren’s foot stretched out to poke at the zombie’s head. “Good, you’re dead.” It was evidence from the bullet wound through the man’s forehead and out the back of his skull that he was obviously dead. Reanimated or not. Eren knelt down and pulled the gold ring off from the bodies finger before stuffing it into his pocket. “It’s not like you have a use for it anymore.”
On his way back to the RV, Eren had cleaned off the ring to the best of his abilities with the fabric of his shirt. It should fit Marco’s finger as his finger’s were slightly thicker than the brunet’s. “Hm.” Coming up to the mobile home’s door, Eren unlocked it before entering inside and shutting it behind him, double checking that it was locked. “Marco?” Eren made his way into the back of the RV where the double sized bed laid.
“I thought you would have been sleeping more.” Smiling as he sat down beside his boyfriend, Eren took hold of Marco’s hand in his own and quickly slipped the ring onto the left hand’s ring finger. “You know I love you, and this is just another way of showing you.”
