At this hour, Alec had thought that he would be the one of the few in Gallagher already awake. An old habit from his army days, he woke up when the sun did. But he liked the quietness of early Gallagher mornings, before everything was flooded with noise, and the way the sun streamed in through the old windows. He was making his way towards breakfast, because even though he liked getting up early he still needed his cup of coffee in the morning, when he saw that he wasn’t actually alone. “Hey there,” he said as he knelt down to greet that cat that was curling around his legs. “What are you doing out here?”
