WHO: katie + kennedy ( @kennedyxwarren ) WHERE: spring fling (flower bar)
The entire town smelled like fresh lemonade, kettle corn, and cut grass. Katie should have been enjoying herself more than she was. Instead, she stood at the edge of the flower arrangement booth pretending to be interested in the handwritten sign advertising build-your-own bouquets while her pulse beat steadily against the inside of her throat.
For a moment, Katie simply watched them work—the careful way they wrapped stems in brown paper, the easy smile they gave customers, the version of them this town had apparently come to know long before she ever arrived. It still felt strange sometimes, seeing the life her cousin had built after becoming little more than a sore subject back home.
Her fingers tightened slightly around the iced coffee in her hand before she finally stepped closer. "Well," Katie said lightly, though there was tension tucked beneath the warmth of her voice, "either this booth’s doing really well, or people in this town are way more emotionally invested in flowers than I realized.
